i use a 30x jewelers loupe. it seems a majority of people use the 30x but others use higher and lower power as long as you can get it to focus on what your want to see.

eventually you wont need the loupe and you will be able to tell just by looking at them with your eyes. once you have seen the change in looks when they ripen, you will know what i mean.

Yeah, 30x is just about perfect. They make metal and plastic ones- just check ebay, Edmund Scientific, Amazon, etc. under jewelers loupe 30X and they are like $3.29 for the metal.

I picked up a 30x jewellers loupe. maybe 6 bucks. I'm pretty new and at first i couldn't find anything to see. Think i was looking to early. Couple weeks later I am able to see everything. Maybe just needed to play with it some.

I ordered a 60-100x, (10bucks) but I don't know if it zooms in to far or something, but it was a pain in the butt to see what i wanted so i went back to the 30x working. great.

I've see some microscopes to attach to your iphone and take close up pictures. Has anyone seeing one for the galaxy s3? thanks

I use a 20x triplet and have no intention of upgrading. cn
Thanks for that CN, its gonna be my first time viewing trichs so i just wanna make sure before i order one. Gonna order the 20x belomo triplet. If you have no intention of upgrading then it must be ok! Can you see the heads clear as day for colour changes etc. thanks man

Truth told, it's at the very lower end of the useful range. But I only use the trichome check as a backup and for personal amusement. I go by bud structure (plus overall time spent) for my cut decision. cn

Fair enough mate, I can appreciate what ur saying but i dont think im gonna have that knowledge for my first go so im gonna have to check the trichs to see where im at on this one. Im currently on my 5th week and there coming along great. When does the swelling start to happen? Was gonna switch from my big bud to overdrive from the 5th week but ive decided to leave it another week. Gonna start the OD on the 6th...

I've never noticed a swelling episode ... of course I watched my buds like a hawk, and they seemed to never change? I have no idea how they turned into six ounces dry. It's one of Nature's miracles. ;)

As for the Overdrive ... as near as I can tell it's basically a PK boost with a pinch of N. I'd go ahead with it while that plant can still use it ... but proceed with caution ... no point overfeeding so close to the end. Jmo. cn

all i have ever used is the 30x and works nice as long as you have a steady hand. but like i say, i dont check the trics that often. i bought 3 of the loupes from ebay and i use them for more than the plants. i have used it to get close up to pull slivers and even used it to pull a very small tick from my daughter. ive looked at my seeds with it and many other uses.

I've used everything from 30x to 400x... it all depends on how close you want to look... but when they are ready you will know they change color as they ripen up...

Guess I'm the only almost blind guy here. Lol. You old farts know you use high power scopes if you even use them at all anymore. I don't use then for ripe buds but mire for bugs.

I've got one like this, but 45x, and it is so strong, even though it's adjustable, it is so strong, you really do better with whatever you're looking at sitting on something solid-overkill IMO.
The light is REALLY bright and works well though :)

I have a 60x hand help from radio shack but I am not good at seeing or using it I have been practicing. I do not have a steady hand. I tried binoculars backwards and I can see better.
