What should I buy for my seedlings? (Light)

I 'm going with a 1000 watt metal halide veg, but from what I've been reading a smaller transitional light is recommended for newly germinated seeds. So my question is what is the minimal lighting I should give my girls till they get strong enough for the 1000watt HID? A t-5 florescent work? What type of bulbs? and how many watts or Lumens. I have no indoor experience so any input is welcome.

id get a t5 how many tubes depends on your plantcount

I germ seeds in soil under a 1000w MH all the time(usually I have other plants in there too at the same time). The shock comes when you try to take some clones that have been kept under some shitty 40w bulb at the dispensary and get home and stick it straight under the 1000w. If you just germ seeds under your 1000w, make sure to ratchet it up about 3 feet or so away from the pots and there should be no problems. The sun is way more powerful than any indoor setup and seeds germ/grow just fine outside. If you are set on getting something, maybe to save a little power during early veg or something, a t-5 will certainly work.

I wouldn't spend much if you already have the 1000w unless you are setting up a totally seperate veg space from your flower room.

I run a T-5 its great you can keep it basically right on top of the plants

just use the 1000 at about 4 feet or so and dim it if possible they will be fine I used my 600 watt mh to do clones dim to 50% at about 1 1/2 foot they did fine no problems how many seedlings u doin?
