I start with clones, so the time I veg is depending really on height... But that first plant was vegged for two weeks. When I first potted it, it was 6" high and I started training immediately. During flower the tops were originally about 2 or 3 inches tall, but right now they are all at about 6 or 7... Some of them (the ones that were actually branches on their own before I LST'ed) ended up growing really tall, closer to ten inches. Again, when this happened I just spaced it out more.
For Veg I've been using different things... For the first plant I used CFLs... Four of them were 5000k and one was 2700k... All were 30 watt somethings (actual cfl wattage) and were rated at 2000 lumens each. For the White Widow I used the 150 watt HPS that I had in there (I didn't feel like rigging up all those cfls again). BUT, I went ahead and threw in a 40 watt 5000K cfl in there and stuck it close to the plants. This wasn't for the extra lumens at all, it was for the light spectrum that this bulb offered. The plant didn't really stretch (all the nodes were about an inch apart) during veg, but during the first week of flower it stretched considerably (more than an inch between nodes, some were two inches) so I'm not sure if it had to do with the HPS or Gentics. I would think genetics since the slight-over stretch happened during the flower. The only problem I had with running the HPS for veg were the temps. During the day they would reach 86 or 87, but at night would stay right around 78-80. I'm thinking of doing an 18/6 veg light schedule and timing the break for when the day is the hottest... before I ran them 24/7.
So for veg I've been experimenting with random lights I already have, trying different combos.
For Flower I use the 150 watt HPS that I have. During the first three weeks I leave a 5000k CFL in there for spectrum.
I expect to pull over an ounce--easy--with that first clone... Maybe even around an ounce and a half, but who knows. With the SOG in 2-liter bottles, I can probably get 2-3 ounces a grow, and might even be able to skip the veg phase since I get really, really developed clones (I'm running two right now that were ten inches tall when got them, 7 after I planted them in one-gallon pasta containers, and I threw them straight into flower... Just gave them 36 hours to chill in the dark. They look good right now!!! Although the extra time to root, I imagine, would have helped a bunch). After this I'm going to try a 10-day veg in 2-liters and see how it goes.
