What size pot to use?

Ok, so what happens if a plant stretches a little more than you expect by the time you harvest and you end up with a 6-7 footer in a 5 gallon pot? Is it going to affect the quality that much? With my situation and doing an outdoor grow away from my house I really cannot see lugging 8 gallon pots to my site just to be on the safe side. It's hard enough watering 5 gallon pots. So I'm just curious if an extra foot or so is all that much stress on the plant.

for every foot put them in a gallon. and i think it would be worth the extra effort because u only have to do it once i mean y not just do it and get a couple extra O's out of it

I hear what you're saying. I have some plants growing that I think will end up in the 6 foot range by the time they start flowering and that doesn't even include their stretching beyond that. But I'm not growing to end up with a huge harvest. I grow for personal stash. If a plant outgrows a 5 gallon pot what's the worst that can happen.. it just produces less or could it actually die? I can live with a reduced yield of equally high quality buds than I would have had if I'd used an 8 gallon pot for instance.
