What strains are a true Kush?

You are not the first man to think that way. Some people already did what you'r talking about and released proper seeds.
A lot of bullshit breeders and a market full of seed producers instead of breeder doesn't mean that there isn't good stuff going around. Working with next generation weed is overall better, but you need to know what to work with.
Why go back to landraces when people already went a few generations ahead like you intend to do? Just need to choose the properly bred stuff, not backcrossed or selfed genetics (like "OG Kush" or "Bubba Kush") but polyhybrids can prove to be very rewarding :-)
Stabilizing your own polyhybrids takes a long time, specially if you want to have up to par results with current breeding efforts.

I believe that in order to find truly elite cuts you need a large genetic pool and a very large selection - not the kind of stuff you usually get with landraces.
By having high variability in the offsprings you can choose the very very best cuts and breed with them.
I think I understand what you're saying but don't agree with not working landraces but how one goes about it is their own thing. Yes there are some killer polyhybrid genetics about there is no denying that but there is also a ton of shit to be found in those polyhybrids and the crosses made with them. For instance… Black Cherry Cola… by it's self an amazing polyhybrid clone only that may throw a sterile nanner if stressed, but when bred to (as evident in AoS and Plushberry both by tga) the hermie genetics come out fully…using landraces is a great idea, you can bred a pure landrace to an elite cut and work it to create your own strain, or work 2 landraces and create something else… For me sativa landraces are a catch, nothing like exotic pure saliva's…

I'm not saying that all new genetics are good to work with, I am saying some is. Choosing the right genetics takes some time, trial and error and expertise - but is possible.
Breeding an IBL (landrace) will just result in another IBL as they are quite stable. Even if you breed many different landraces it will take you quite a few years before you can reach todays newage strains THC and CBD count.
Main reason to use landraces are that they are easy to grow and their F1 crosses are usually very easy to grow.
