I have a box about 3x3 by about 7 feet tall. I have a 1000 watt air cooled hps with foylon on the wall. I have 2 six in duct fans exhausting it and not sure what temperature to go by. The temperture under the light is about 84-88 but the temperaure coming from the exhaust not attached to the light hood is 74-77. Is this fine or should I try to get the temperature under the light lower.

So my thermometer is a black digital one could that make it read high? There are also no plants in the closet yet I am just get it ready to move from my veg box. I have the thermometer sitting about where the canopy will be.

take temps from top of canopy also the room itself u want a ambient temperature thru out the hole room u should be able to move the thermomitor around the whole room with out a sudden drop in temps 2-4 c drop is fine

The ambient temperature throught out the box is 72-78 even under the light. But when the thermometer is in direct light is goes to 85-90. I feel that the thermometer being black is giving me a high reading. Just due to how warm it is when I pick it up. I am gonna try increasing the intake size to see if that helps then test agaim.

Remember this - we are interested in two kinds of heat - ambient heat and radiant heat. Radiant heat is the warmth you feel from direct sunlight (or from your growlight); ambient heat is whatever the surrounding area heats up to.

it is the ambient heat you want to control at about 80 degrees f. The plants are much more forgiving of a higher radiant temperature.

Hope that helps!
