What the PH value??

Hi........ guys. The letters pH stand for power of hydrogen and numerical value for pH is just the usual range of pH values encountered is between 0 and 14.
What does it mean pH is the abbreviation for potential hydrogen. The pH of any solution is the measure of its hydrogen-ion concentration.

The way I learned it, pH stands for "potential Hydrogen", not "Power of Hydrogen". The one thing I could never figure out was wtf does Hydrogen have to do with measuring the relative amount of acidity vs. alkalinity!

I understand the 1-14 pH scale, and all that crap, but what does that have to do with Hydrogen?

acids donate hydrogen ions in a chemical process
bases donate hydroxyl ions - OH - add OH and H and you get H2O
strong base/strong acid neutralize each other perfectly, and water is one of the products
