right now all i have is 3 germinating seeds in AOK rockwool starter plugs set in a small tupperware, clonex, ph down, ph meter, and 2 23W cfls. Eventually I want to end up in 5 gallon buckets with air pumps, air stones, etc.

I know I am going to have to buy a nice light here soon (8-12 bulb t5) but what should i get in the meantime to get me through the seedling stage?

Dude you need Hydroton thats a must , also CLonex is not a nutrient its a gel you put on the stems of your clones .. YOu are going to need nutrients as well .. If money is tight then I suggest you get some CFL's I dont use them but Im sure you can get a bunch at home depot a lot cheaper than a T5 my T5 ran about 250.00 for the 6 bulb one that gives 30,000 lumen . Also you definitely need nutes Clonex is not a nutrient for your plants during veg. Also if you are growing DWC bubbleponics you are going to need a PH pen & PPM pem .. Also what kind of water do you plan using?

I suggest a 400w HPS ballast, a 4" air cooled reflector, a Philips ceramic metal halide bulb, some ducting, and a 180cfm blower fan.

Total cost $350 versus $200 to $300 for your 8 to 12 bulb T5 fluorescent setup. Either way works, just the 400w HPS is going to give you better buds.

You should probably be looking at nutrients right now also. Canna makes affordable two part systems, the Lucas System is also especially good in DWC hydroponics (google it). You should be stocking up on several things though. I think you're looking down the barrel of about $500 to $700 in total purchases from this point forward depending on what you get. You can spread this all out over the next two months, but you need a good $300 now, $200 soon after that, and the final bit before flowering begins.

Yes what this guys says and I would go with General Hydroponics Line of nutrients they are pretty affordable and easy to use , might want to stay away from the Lucas formula until you get some grows under your belt. Do a little more homework but yeah you are going to have to drop a few hundred bucks to get started we are here to help so dont worry.

You kind of lost me on your previous post...

What BeaverHuntr was saying is that CloneX is a cloneing / rooting formula for taking cuttings off of a mother plant and rooting them. We did them in the solution to encourage root growth and development from one of the branches off the mother that we cut.

You need to get some good nutrients, cloneX will not cut it!

I would go with General Hydroponics Micro & Bloom do not buy the grow. I would do the lucas formula and have fun with it!

A 5GA bucket with a 5-6" net pot lid will be able to hold only 3GA of water. So using Lucas formula: 5ML / 10 ML during Veg and 8ML / 16ML Flower the measurement are for Micro / Bloom and are ML / GA

So veg for 3 ga reservoir you would have 15ML micro and 30ML of bloom, during flower you would run 24ML of Micro & 48 ML of Bloom

You can add in other nutrients but this is a basic as it comes. I am using the lucas formula right now on my AK48 grow and the only addition to the above is some Sweet & Boost which adds flavor or promotes sugars = buds

Yeah who told you to buy clonex ??

bought a air pump and air stone and some 3" net pots to start. should i get a 3" rockwool plug to put in the net pot or is the 1.5" ok to put in with some hydroton?

micro and bloom GH should be good for my nutrients right?

Add light now. Your fine with rockwool many people have issues with it just make sure there is a good layer of hydrotron below it and keep the rockwool covered!

yeah I always veg my seedlings in the dome for 2 weeks I use rapid rooter plugs but I let them veg in the dome for two weeks before I transfer them in to the cooler buckets. I would add nutrients when you start to see some roots . Just use some PH 5.8 water for the first couple of weeks.

thanks approx how much water should i be giving them? right now i am just putting a few tablespoons by the bottom of the plugs every other night. im not sure if they need it or not.

will 2-3 cfl bulbs over teh dome provide enough light for now?
