What to spend my money on...

I use 30% perlite to soil. Any good grade potting soil will have correct nutes. On the smell, well that is hard to say but maybe up to 100 feet if things are just right. Most of the time a lot less than that, depends on plants and the ability to smell of different people. In other words 20 feet or so.

I use the drop test for ph and it is all you need. Cheap too.

I have chlorine in the water and let a gallon of water sit out overnight or 2, good enough for me. If it is chloramine then it would take a week or so. I think a little chlorine will not hurt a plant anyways. No need to buy distilled water imo.

Spent $150 on stuff today, almost have everything...

What are the cords that plug into the wall and have a light attachment on the other end called? I need those.

They are often called "lamp holders" or something similar. I guess its too late if you spent ya money, but for future reference B22 and ES22, are the fitting types:

B = bayonet fitting - the bulb has two dimples on the metal connector, which lock the bulb in place with a quarter turn
ES = Edison Screw fitting - the metal connector has a thread that screws the bulb into the fitting

22 is the size, which is standard light bulbs... Big CFL's (100w+) and Sodium and HDS, are usually E40, a larger fitting
