What tool do you use to check the trichromes?

Note to newbies on observing trichomes --

*30X is plenty strong enough to see what you need to see. Stronger magnification narrows your field of view
to the point you can't focus on any single area. Get a cheap plastic one but make sure it has a small light
built in so you can see well.
*Start 'scoping a few weeks into flowering so you can become familiar with looking at the trichomes. They will first pop up
on the small leaves around the biggest buds. Look for small mushroom-shaped growths that are clear as water.
*Practice your 'scope-handling skills by looking at a penny under 30X. You will find that the easiest way to focus
the 'scope is to leave the object stationary, rest the bottom of the 'scope next to the object and tilt the 'scope back and
forth until you are in focus.

There is a ton of advice on just when the trichomes are ripest. Most say hold off on harvesting until the 'chomes have turned from clear to milky or darker.
I think that is generally correct. I would add that letting the plant go an extra week seems to increase the couch-lock affect.

Good luck, bigsteve.
