What type of soil do I need?

So I'm a first time grower, growing a single plant indoors, it was given to me as a clone, and am just wondering as to what type of soil I should use when I upsize my pot. Most things I've found online seem to be pointing to miracle gro, but I honestly have no idea what to buy, what to mix etc etc. So please, any input would be fantastic.

Miracle isnt too good or healthy to use as medium imo
I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest and i add some perlite
Ffof is considerd a hot medium wich means it so pakked with nutrients in the actual soil that u dont need to feed for about 3 weeks
just add water and watch her grow

my opinion. soil is soil . mg is not bad soil actually its very good compared to others in the price range . don't get MOISTURE CONTROL . and your ok . I am the guy that will dump a 5 gallon pot out after it dries for a month to reuse the soil again and once again . dirt is dirt. have experimented with dirt from out side compared to fox farms to pro mix to big lot brand . they all grew the plants the same . when all of them were sitting next to each other . except for drainage that was different .

Yeah I've seen alot of good things about the ocean forest one, but unfortunately I live in canada and it appears to be near impossible to find a retailer, and shipping it will cost me an arm and a leg, any other good alternatives that are relatively cost effective?

I'd look for something local that isn't pre-loaded with nutrients. You can spot these by the "feeds for X months" verbage. MG organic potting soil is pretty tame, not sure if that's available in Canada, What do you plan as far as feeding them?

I do have MG organic potting mix available in stores near me, and honestly, feeding them was going to be another question of mine, I've only had this guy for about a week now, and I've just been flushing water through it every 2-3 days when the soil feels dry to my first knuckle. This is my first time ever caring for any type of plant, so I'm unsure of what nutrients I should go with, when to use them, how much, etc. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Don't give any nutes for about a month and a half. (you're entire veg cycle depending on strain) The soil has all you'd want.
I've used in the past and gotten gorgeous results.
Stay away from Miracle grow, unless you have literally no access to Fox farms soils.
If you go with MG, go with one that isn't overloaded with fertilizer, or if you get one like that, flush out the soil before transplanting your sprouted bean into it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm unable to get Fox Farms due to lack of availability here in the great white north, but it seems almost like a unanimous decision that if one can't get their hands on fox farms MG organic potting mix is the way to go, maybe with some added perlite... just unsure on what nutes I should use, preferably something I could pick up at walmart, lowes, home depot, etc.... thanks again

Just be sure to flush the soil before planting in it, it's a bit of a pain, but it'll be worth it to prevent burning your babies.

Before I read people's warnings about MG, I went out bought some MG moisture control preloaded with nutes. The exact thing everyone hates on. But I have to say MG has been good to me. I just smoked the first of my harvest and even without curing it tastes great. Here is the result.

The reason people dislike miracle grow, is because it comes with so much fertilizer preloaded in it, and it makes it difficult to control what nutes she's getting.
If you can prevent burn in the initial stages, it'll work for ya.

I'm gonna go with promix potting soil, and add in some vermiculite, and im getting some nutes for feeding from a friend of mine :) hope it all works out once I transplant.

Would you say about a week or 2 into the transplant is when I should start the nutes? Shes small but not exactly a sapling, it was given to me as a clone, and she stand about 6-8 inches tall

I have no idea of the strain, I had a single bag seed and this is was it gave me. Oddly, the weed the seed came from was not purple at all. I might have been low night time temps that brought it out so much. Some nights it got around 60~59 F.

I've heard (and i'm no expert), that if you throw in some ice cubes along with the final flush of your purps cycle before harvest, it brings the purp colors out.
