First off, try to buy a soil that doesnt have added fertilizer to it (ie: miracle gro). A favorite around here is Fox Farms - Ocean Forest & Happy Frog. Next, you want a good veg fertilizer and a good flower fertilizer. You also want to make sure that the fertilizers have added micronutrients as well (like cal, mag, phosphate, etc). If they dont, you can purchase a product called Cal/Mag that you want to use once a month. For veg growth, a 3-2-2 ratio fertilizer is pretty good. This is the N-P-K ratio, or Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium of the fertilizer. So, 15-10-10 would be good for veg.
For flower, you want a P boost, so 2-3-1 is a nice combo. Remember to add cal/mag!
As for brands, I like Jacks Classic. You can find them in some hydro stores or garden shops or online at the Jacks Classic website. Get the 'Dynamic Duo'.
