What watt of light

Hello fellow growers. I have a huge outdoor garden but still have the urge to grow threw the long winter months. I have built a grow box 2.5'x2.5'x5'. The room that the box is in is 12'x12' and during the winter the ambient temp is 65 degrees. My only means of venting the box would be in to the 12x12 room. Venting out threw windows or the roof is not an option. So heres the big question, should I go with a 150 hps and a couple of 42 watt flouros or buck up and get a 250 watt hps? I rather be growing than dealing with heat problems so this is a concern. I don't want to be fighting with over heating.

Thanx in advance for your input

250 watt hps is perfect for that space you won't have heat problems but the 150 with side lights is a better around veg/flower set up

I'm not lookin to grow the most chronic ganja on the planet I just wana stop putting money into drug dealers pockets I'm planing on having two plants going do I really need to slpash out on more powerful lights ?

Get a 250. A 400 is going to cause you a ton of heat issues and you can use more than a 150.

Why are you asking for more help? You have two members who have substantial rep or almost a year of membership here plus one new jack on his first seed. Both dudes said 250. My advice would be to obey.

You asked, take the answer bud! ;)

Best of luck

Watch people's join date. If its within the last 3 months, don't listen to them unless its with pictures and very detailed. Noobs can be dangerous.

Thanx! 250 it is. I have gone to 3 grow shops around town and 2 of them said 400 and the other said no high than 150 or your going to have heat issues. So I figured take it to the forums and ask. I have had so many different opinions and I think I'll go with those on this forum.

Thanx and happy hooting

Venting shouldn't be an issue. I've did HVAC (heating, venting, ac) for the past 12 years. I found a 170 cfm inline fan lying around at work and creatively acquired it. Doing some fishing around and some thinking I came up with this idea. At the bottom of the box I will have 2 computer fans on the right side pulling air in. At the top left side I'll have my discharge. So the air should get pulled up and across the plants, past the lights and out. This is where it gets interesting. On the left side of the box is where the inline fan is mounted and hooked up to the box's discharge via a 4" 90* elbow, 12" of 4" pipe (3 x D of pipe before running into a fan after a change of direction reduces turbulence there for gives you better airflow) and a canflex connector on both the intake and discharge side of the fan. On the discharge side of the fan will be about 7 feet of 4" pipe down threw the furnace return air in my floor and into the basement. So when the system is up and running all the hot air goes down into the basement supplying warm air to the coldest room in the house. There for Im not exausting into the same room the grow box is in, keeping the room temps down and also heating the basement. Thats my idea anyways. Still need to wait for fall and winter because the house is way to hot right now 85 and I don't have AC.
