What would you do with this space?

I have just happily come into an outdoor structure that I can use for a grow room. It's a former chicken coop I built 3 years ago but I just recently gave away the chickens and cleaned the hell out of it and put it behind my shed. The dimensions are 55"H x 43"L x 42"W.

In the place that it's in it is nearly invisible to anyone and far enough away from anyone that smell should not be a factor. It has several large openings on 3 sides, one on the top at the back about 10 x 10 another on the middle left wall about 12 x 12 and the last on the bottom front also about 12 x 12. The door opens out and is approximately 3.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide.

How would you set this space up?

use it for chickens again and i wouldnt even think of putting cannabis where chickens had their home set up, bacteria is a bitch to clean up, even though I am sure the hose you ran thru there did wonders, it just wouldnt be clean enough for me.

But I also dont piss in my plants, though some do.

I thoroughly disinfected that thing. First with dish washing liquid and ammonia and then again with bleach. Secondly, it was sheet rocked on the inside and I plan on taking all of that out, replacing it, and painting the inside white. And now that I think about it, I'm going to prime the inside before I even put the sheet rock back up.

I don't get it, Do you plan on taking the top off and growing under the sun or adding lights.

exactly what i was going to say cruzer, make it a gh. though it might be a lil short it would be great for late season planting. you could throw some plants in there today and get a pretty decent yield before christmas.

Well, yes of course it's going to be a grow house and I'm putting lights in it. I'm also going to use it to start vegetable seeds and clone phlox and other plants. But for now it's going to grow me a decent supply of ganja, which I will most certainly NOT be sharing with anyone but my wife It's perfectly stealthy. I was asking if you could make the perfect grow room set up with that space like it is, what would do to it?

Well, a single 400w ceramic metal halide will do the trick, it will veg or flower and produce more trichomes then a HPS
Installed in a cool tube it will be easy to blow air through. a second exhaust fan on a thermostat at the top with screened holes at the bottom for intake.
Probably want to go with an indica dominate strain and for ease of maintenance grow in soil mix placed in 2 or 3 gallon smart pots watered by a drip system on a timer.
4 plant sites will do it, veg for 6 weeks, a little low stress straining and flower.

is this structure insulated? how sealed off is it? what are the temps like? you might need to install an air conditioner or a heater depending on the climate you live in.

Here are pictures of the structure. I'm looking to go as cheaply as possible. I've been using CFLs and will be making my own 4 socket fixture from a design I saw on this site, so there will be plenty of light. Is there enough room to divide it in half and make one side veg, one side flower? As I said, I plan on ripping out whatever sheet rock is there, painting the wood with primer and re-sheet rocking and painting the inside white. The floor is linoleum and in perfect condition. Right now the temps have been hovering at around 70 - 80 with the door closed. The humidity is at 80% but that's because I soaked the inside, and I'm guessing once I remove the old sheet rock and put up new, that should go down to the 40-50% range. There seems to be a lot of potential here.

You have a great structure already in place. Make sure you get that place dried out good before you start your grow. Dont want mold to be in place to hurt your grow from the get go. You can use cfl to start, but I would suggest mh/hps as they will be great for that space. They will also help with temps when the cool down happens. Again, depending on your climate, an ac unit or space heater may be needed, but with the temp you mentioned now, seems as airflow will work at this stage.

I removed the sheet rock, disinfected it again, and primed the inside, and you would not believe what a difference there is. I currently have my girls in there and they seem very happy. I was wondering if someone could advise me on where to put some intake and output fans. In the third picture that opening in the back is against my shed and doesn't really get any air in or out. I'm guessing I should put an exhaust fan(s) in the top long opening, but should I put an intake fan in the opening below it, or on the opposite wall to the left of the door? Any ideas?

No intake fans, just out, and at the top. The exhaust fans will push out heat and circulate new air to the growing area. Just have a passive intake. Really want to try to have some negative pressure, but at the very least neutral(just as much out as in.

So here are a couple new pics of the box with it set up. I plan on adding a nice big exhaust fan to cover the whole top and a 10 inch box fan on the opposite wall. Is this the best way to do it or should both fans be on the same wall, say in the opening under the large rectangular window? I am also planning on putting in light boxes on these large openings; the chief reason being stealth. Will this decrease airflow? Also, should my lights be lower? I plan on adding 2 more 40 watt cfls. Right now there are five 40 watt cfls and one 26 watt. Is that enough light?

ya never know... it doesnt take anything to pop a master padlock like that off

Fot your taller girl thats about as close as you want to get, with the extra bulbs you have you might want to make a separate fixture to hang and adjust for the shorter ones.
