Plant yield and plant quality increase in an almost linear manner as DLI increases, up to the light saturation point (800-1000µmols).
Assuming the other parts of your grow environment are sound, you should at least double the PPFD in your grow. And, per Bugbee, there's no need to slooowly ramp up the light level. Cannabis loves light.
I've given my plants too much light on two occasions. Once ended up with a couple of colas that had a little bend in them. the other time, some of the leaves started turning on their axis, like a window shade, to reduce the amount of light hitting them. I caught the mistake - the light had been flipped to max power - and about ½ hour later, the leaves had rotated back to normal.
The light data for my current grow - one Chemdog photo, in a 2' x 4' tent, res holds 28 gallons. At 30 days, this plant was at 740µmols. I use an Apogee and sample multiple points on the canopy.
