What's best way to keep temps down in closet grow space?

i was curious what alot of closet growers, and small space/tent users do to keep the temps down?... my space is 4ft wide 2.5-3 wide, 5.25ft tall.. i am using a 400 way hps/mh grow light, curently using the MH bulb and i went from putting a heater in the closet with fluroescent cuz it would be around 60 so i would bring it up to 75, not i took out heater put in my MH light an now my tempts get to lower then 80, sometimes 90 close to 100.. an i have to keep door shut, i have a clip on fan on high speed that oscilates and i put my window fan in there fabed it to hang an on high speed( this fan is kinda lame qulaity wise but better then nothing.. i plan on ordering a wall mount fan.. but in the mean time, what are u ppl doing that use MH lights. there soo hot.. plz help asap.. thank you sorry so long

you need an "exhaust fan".

yea i was thinking that but the only thing is its a closet that has a flat shelf 5ft up that i put random stuff an the grow room is underneath that an i dont have no where to rele put one.. its just your ordinary closet an the light hanging from the botom of shelf, i cant cut a big ol hole in my wall coming into my bedroom lol..

I'm afraid that you have limited options if you really do need to keep that door shut and if you are renting.

If you can't get an exhaust to outside air through a wall, you could try to put a hole (3" x 3") in either the ceiling/floor. In a house this might at least let the hot air move into the attic (or second floor depending where your closet is)/floor joist space.) If you do this right you should be able to cover it up if this is not your property and you move later (a ceiling hole can be patched with sheetrock/joint compound and even an average patch should not be noticed in a closet, and a floor patch would work if you could pry up a section of floor and cut the hole in your subfloor.)

If you rent, don't cut into either a wall/floor as you would most likely let odors get into a neighbor's apartment and that would be bad. You should only cut into the closet ceiling if there is a well ventilated attic above you.

If you happen to live in a house, this gives you more options. But in a small closet, I'd always go with CFLs/fluros as the heat can just build up quickly and kill your grow.

If you can leave the closet door open, you have more options as you can either rig a fan to vent directly outside through an open window, or could leave a small open area at the top of your closet to let hot air out while a small fan at the bottom can blow cool air into the closet. If any of these apply to you, I can give you more details.

I wish I had better answers, but I don't understand where your closet is in relation to neighbors/outside air.

exhaust fan and a good intake

I have a 400w in my closet and had the same temp prob the first day. Got up to the 90's..

I took a 4" hole saw to the ceiling and put a small fan under it pointing up. Above the closet is my attic so it blows in there. Now temps don't go above 75 - perfect.

Hate to say it but you need an exhaust vent, or an A/C.. At the very least attempt to get the ballast out of the closet if you can.

You HAVE to exhaust air out of the of the room. Punching a hole in the ceiling for an exhaust fan is the easiest way, otherwise get a good circulation fan and exhaust air out of a window. The bonus to the ceiling exhaust is that it creates a lower pressure in the room which keeps the smell at bay and pulls in fresh air from the rest of the house or from an open window.

door closed will = 90F temps even with a good fan. U need exuast or keep the door open

Maybe you could just cut a hole in your door and replace the door I've always thought of that.

I had the same problem I just went to home depot picked up a 70cfm bathroom vent fan 3inch flex pipe cut a a 3" hole in the ceiling and im in way better shape.

and I got this and slapped it on some black/white poly does wonders.

i thought about hooking up a bathroom set up.. cu its a closet an like most there is a shelf at head level, i got shit on the shelf, but above shelf goes into the drop celing, which if i cut a hole in the shelf an did the exhaust fan that would prob work, i was going to do it, but i was also looking at air coolers too that u put water in? anyone use em? cuz i bought one ha it was only 65 shipped on ebay, its a little one, 13in long, 7deep an like 15 high.. some ppl were happy with it for small bed rooms, cubicals, more happy then upset, some upset, but they were wantin it or prob bigger rooms.. im going to give it a try, i hope it comes before friday.. i guess ill keep it on low an not facing at the plants, maybe like cadi corner facing the wall an it will work its out out the corner prob yo help.. ill experiment when i get it, i just hope it does good, it should also a fan an humidifier if i want it to be.. cheapest an smallest i found.. i hope it f'in works lol cant waste 60 bucks.. anyone use these? whats ur input?? any thing bad? please dont say yes

I plan on using a 400 watt in a 2x4 closet with wooden sliding doors. My closet sounds almost identical to ops. I don't know how I could set up venting either. Would A grow light with cool tube be enough? I originally planned just to leave the door cracked with a fan pointed at the lights but that doesnt seem to good an idea.

what i ended up doing was going to home depot an getting a bath/bathroom exhaust fan with no light, they got a 50 cfm for 3 an a 70 for like 18 i got the 70 it is a lil louder, cut a square in the top shelf, got some duct piping put it on the end where the fan shoots the air an put it thro the whole like a chimney an i hang the fan in the room by the light so the heat goes up through the "chimney" up through the top shelf an in the drop ceiling, seems to be working well, i been leaving door cracked when i can, but it went from reaching up towards 100 to sometimes to ilke 75 but most the time at 78-83 which i think is good, but the thing is if i put my head aove the plants, the fans make it feel cool, the thermometer is prob getting the heat that is sitting still an the fans are cooling it down, an i make sure the plants stay hydrated, there still small but very healthy.
