go with the hps and an air cooled hood...heat wont be an issue if you seal the hood good enough...that many watts of cfls will put off a lot more heat than people would like to admit:mrgreen:

HIDs get really hot tho if not properly ventillated tho right?
but do they yield a higher end crop?
ive seen ppl with a bunch of low wat cfls grow a large crop

but most times the buds on those crops are fluffy and light...really good and experienced growers can do some amazing things with cfls....but if you are new to the sport you should stick with the basics and then experiment.....and yes..hids will out perform cfls watt per watt anyday of the week..and not just a little bit either

for a closet??? It depends on what you can do, if you can vent the air properly id say go with the HPS, I am battling that same decision. I think the hps might win depending on how my first yield goes. right now im using about 300 watts of CFL's... 20 days old, vegging

my question is how are you guys affording to buy so many CFL's and switch to HPS and stuff.. aren't these lights extremely expensive..
i am also deciding whether to go cfl or hps. i am in a 2x3x10 foot closet , very small area so thinking about going cfl

leds suck....unless you have a couple thousand to waste on a million little lights........you need to figure what size space you are going to use and then find the cubic feet of the area and that will give you your fan rating...you want to pull in the bad air from above and have fresh air come from the base of the closet.....

hid lighting isnt that much more than cfls...the bulbs for cfls are cheaper buy themselves...but when you do the math on how many cfls you need to light the area plus the material for hanging them and the spliters you can most likely find hps lighting for around the same price and will give you many more lumens per watt....making hid more cost effective in the long run...

well you need alot of $ to start off growing. u can get a job. save money, sell old junk. i dunno but u need quite a bit to start off. and yes lights are very expensive but they are the most important thing when growing.

ok so i have to have a hole in the ceiling with a fan ( to suck out bad air ) connected to a carbon filter and a fan on the ground bringing in fresh air?

also it seems like hps could be pretty pricey to consider you have to purchase the ballast, and more expensive on electric bill.

plus in a 2x3x10 closet.. not much area for a lot of hotness.. so i think ill stick with CFL's..
maybe 1 200w blue and 1 200w red. and get mylar or something.
