What’s the best bang for buck cob these days?

I mix cobs and strips. They grow very well together. And what kindve wattage I've built from 100w to 1500w and building two now one 1280w and one 1920w. All with strips. They can push anything you need. Lol.
4 extra cobs or 4 strips. I can push more wattage through cobs than I can through strips. It would also be more awkward to work that into a frame which was predominantly made up of cobs. Slight more complication than I need. Not saying it couldn't work, just don't think it is right for me.
Thanks for mentioning the option though.

That price cannot be argued with. Price is a concern but I can stretch a little further than that. I'd rather grab the newer vero's or the cmx.
Those are the newest veros They are vero18 SE gen7 . I just use more of them and spread them out over the grow area to get a more uniform footprint . I am guessing you want the bigger vero29se going to have to heatsink those for sure to get full power out of them, digikey has them starting at $19. The C's are quite a bit more pricey @ $25 a piece.

I'm pretty sure the new 5050 strip will push way more than any cob on the market. I believe with great cooling they can push up to 400w per strip. Idk of a single cob that reach even close to that. But I get what your saying. Already having a setup full of cobs. Rewiring and all that jazz. I def get it.

citi high currents go north of 800W. the 3618s have been topping 500W since gen 4 from 4 or 5 years ago

According to Tekniks tests the 5050 wont do more than about 2.5ppf/w. But thats good enough for me.

I try to keep an eye on what’s happening LED wise but I’m not as up to speed on it as you guys. That’s why I started the thread. I had no idea singular strips could be pushed that hard. I thought they maxed out at around 50w per strip.

My 12 existing cobs are at the moment spread over 3 large aluminium heatsinks. I built them before pin fins were readily available. I was thinking of doing a complete rebuild. 4 rows of 4 cobs of pin fins on an angle frame. Strips could be worked in to that but in my head, it just comes off as a complication heatsink wise & frame wise that I could do without.

I’m leaning towards the CMX or Vero’s. They seem to be around the price point that works for me & are both very efficient. I’ve just got to price them up when I get a chance & see what fits best.

Thanks for all the info.

Check out the HLG qb96elite v2 engines. Their a cob style and can take up to 200 watts without active cooling. 320 watts max. 4 covers a 4x4 perfectly when installed 10” from all sides of tent and about 16-18” above canopy.

these are 12/12 from seed, the far left smalls are 13 days from seed, the taller on the right are 31 days from seed. 200 watts used. the tallers are at 500 PAR, the smallers are 325 par.

Topped at 21 days,

Im keeping them at 500 PAR max. This is experimental run, the tallers are fem seeds i made from ShipWreck, the smallers are my FireOG/Thai lemon cross i created.

the object is to give them no more then 500 PAR. also, i transplanted 1 solo into a 2gallon 4 days ago. Object is to see the growth difference after transplant while in flower mode. Because its said, once they start flower, they stop root growth, so im curious to this outcome.

and yes, tomorrow im going to duct tape the clear containers, lol,
