Best defense against outdoor spider mites is a good healthy plant. You'll never be able to kill them all so you have to rely on other insects to keep their numbers low. Planting plants like carrots, cilantro, marigolds, chives, garlic, peppermint, and basil can help too. Aluminum foil as a mulch helps against flying insects. Copper tape deters crawling slugs and snails. Spraying your plants down with soapy water (dawn, ivory, dove, etc) can help keep plants clean (removes dust allowing leaves to collect maximum amount of sunlight), kills pests through suffocation, and makes it easier for plants to uptake nutrients.

While i have not used it yet, people are reporting great results with "Mighty Wash"

I use neem, and a hot shot no pest strip. had good results so far.

the most organic way to get rid of them is the vacume cleaner. but ive been doing that for a couple weeks now and it doesnt seem to of made to big of a diffrence. im going to try that ciggerete idea overnight

Unless it's an infestation I leave them alone. If anything, ice water with a drop or two of Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle should be sufficient. They usually die off on their own when the temperature drops.

Ice Cold water showers (yeah add the dish soap if you like, but I would rinse with plain water afterwards).... and garlic spray (3 times a week for up to 3 weeks after you THINK they are gone). Cheap and extremely effective (particularly on outdoor plants)

I had a spider mite problem last year outdoors with a big white widow crop.. I used ed rosenthals zero tolerance herbal pesticide and it worked great.. I even spray the plants and ground surrounding my crop. Use dawn and plain water to spray the plants often to keep them clean.

omg...not one person said azamax!....wtf....that is what everyone i know uses...
it's expensive but it works great outside...
it's made from neem...
lately time have been tight and i can spend $50 for a bottle...
i started using dyna-gro brand neem oil on my indoor tent.
it's not easy as easy to use as azamax....but it seems to keep mites in check..(inside)
i tried neem outside and it did nothing....
