Depends what strain it is. It has little to do with the fact that you're growing DWC. Some plants like some things, others like other things.
You do it by reading up on the technique you want to use, there are thousands of good tutorials around if you search.

Ive done most of the common ones, IMO scrog always seemed to be the best and LST (if done right) gets pretty close as well but scrog is pretty much fool proof

can scrog be done individually?
because i figure it would be too difficult to lift the plant up to change the nutrient solution in the bucket if they all tied down to the same screen... or is that not effective ?

Haven't seen a strain out of 50 or so that I can scrog so not really seeing it's strain dependent.

Yes I have cpvc scrog screens on my individual buckets attached to lid, so easy up and check/change replace etc... just takes some creativity and common sense practice.

how high should the screen be? how tall do plants get? my light is fixed on the ceiling, is a 600 watt ac reflector so i can get the plants pretty close to the light....

I've grown a handful of strains that were not suited to scrogging in terms of supposed yield increase.

how high the screen depends on how high your ceiling is. be careful growing plants too close to the bulbs. Ive bleached them before letting them get too close. i like to be able to check my roots for nasty devils. i never knew i had a root aphid infestation in my last dwc until harvesting. so there's two dwc amateur mistakes you hopefully can learn from my mistakes. The dwc grow too fast!!! so i vote for the individual pvc net frames. I never thought of pvc frames and zip tied tomato cages to the tops of the buckets.

what if there was space for them to grow 4 feet without counting the bucket the light and be at a safe distance from the light... then how tall should the screen be so the plants can grow that tall?

i think it takes a few grows with a certain strain to fully understand how high they should be in your grow environment. I would flip the lights when they are 12 inches tall. dwc can triple in height after the flip. so id go for the screen to be at 2-3ft above the bucket.

no the screen can be any height but i prefer it to be about 1 foot above my bucket then when you flip you try to contain all that stretchy growth by training it under the screen

I use tomato cages hooked to the lids, along with lst, and supercropping.

Nice work. Tomato cages here too. I've been thinkin about throwin a few strings across the rings to get a scrog/support every foot or so, seems sort of unnecessary since I top several times before even putting them into these buckets and they all have 10 or so main tops at this size.

That is genius mate, im doing LST as well but never thought of building a structure that holds on the lid, ill give that one a "GO" on my next grow

I like tomato cages as well, nice work. I really like SCROG as it makes main colas from side branches unlike cages, thus tripling yields and many times more. Cages just really support the colas you topped in the first place, where scrog takes that and makes more mains per square foot when the branch starts to grow vertically the plant focuses growth like a main cola to that branch now.

Cages aren't only good for supporting colas. You can top, lst and supercrop and get multiple main colas in a cage. I've done it for years. You can get more out of a scrog, but it's not as easy to move around and takes more space/time per plant.
