whats the deal with nute feeding charts???

Hello everyone. I need a little info, and maybe some of you fine folks can shed a little light on the subject for me. What is the deal with feeding charts? A friend of mine grows in 100% canna coco, uses canna nutes and Aptus. Last harvest he grew 3 or 4 strains, he harvested them all on the same day... I thought it was odd that 4 diff strains would all be ready on the same day, and he had a cut of GSC that was very pre mature IMHO and so flavorless and not potent at all, I blasted 8 grams and got 2 dabs lmao.
He has another wave going right now, 3 strains I think... So the other day he's telling me how he's on week 5 of flower , so I ask him about how long does he think he will need to flower until ready.... And he tells me that the feeding chart only goes to a certain point and its done... This makes no sense at all to me, how can a feeding chart tell you when your plants are done? Tricombs etc tell you when your plants are done.... So he tells mW once the feesi g schedual is done, all plants get harvested... Wtf??? How can a feeding schedule from a chart determine when the plants are done??? He's going to do the same thing he said, feed until the chart says its done then chop all the plants at once... This seems completely wrong to me, and would explain why his bud is all immature(all of his strains were somewhat immature IMO, the GSC was just the worst out of them. So can someone please explain to me what the deal is here. And if this is in the wrong section mods feel free to move it. Thanks

Feeding charts are a guide line, not a hard recipe and I cant think of one nutrient manufacture that would tell you that a 11 week sativa will be ready in 8 weeks. Also each strain is different on nutrient needs, whether it is a big feeder or whether it is sensitive to heavy nutrient loads. It also varies on which system the nutrients, whether pure hydro, coco blends, or soil, whether or not is Recirculating, Drain to waste, or zero to waste. The charts cant see if your having a mag deficiency and that you might need to drop a little epsom salt in your nute mix, or they cant tell if the Nitrogen is too rich and gonna burn the shit out of the leaves. Its really a relationship between plant and grower which determines actual amounts. I have had a mate that was similar, would watch YouTube and go out and buy the nutes and do exactly what the tuber was saying in his video, then a few days later I would get a call and him screaming in panic that his plants look like shit, can I help him.

Hi @MjAeJdIiK :)

most strains have a theoretical flowering of 8 weeks so most feeding schedule are based on 8 weeks !

you then have to adapt it to the real flowering time !

They are a shameless way to get new growers to buy and use shit they don't need

biggest mistake is to put a plant on a schedule
Amen to that!! Once you start growing more regularly, you can literally sense what your ladies need. They are like children, each one has a different personality, character trait, and different nutrient requirement. I get better results feeding less than the "schedules" say, and it puts less stress on me AND my ladies. I actually enjoy growing more now that I let the ladies tell me what they want/need. Much more in tune with them and they show me love back with wonderful medicine. :bigjoint:

Thanks guys! Allnof you just confirmed whatbi already knew to be true haha! What sucks is since I'm just starting out and don't have all the fancy equipment yet, my friend thinks I know nothing. This feeding chart theory of his explains a lot now!! Again ty for all the responcea you guys are the shit

Aren't there different feeding schedules? I use h&g nutrients(who used to work with canna) and they have quite a few different feeding schedules for different flowering times.

Temperature humidity and the amount of light plays a HUGE roll in the amount of feeds the plant needs or wants. None of these charts take any of that into account....its literally impossible. Most charts lean towards overfeed (it affects there bottom line) and most charts should be a rough guide if that. If your buddy is literally taking the weeks on a chart for harvest times of his plants he needs to ditch the chart...get a microscope and start growing with a little more self reliance and intuition. He will get it. Hes bound to. Just needs to use the charts as a very rough guideline or ditch them all together. Good luck!!!

Noobs. I can see the usefulness if u have not a clue what ur doing. But after a few rips the feed charts can get trashed or used very generally. After gaining some experience a grower usually comes up with a program on their own. Should anyways.....if they love growing...pay attention to details. ...and have a passion for this thing of ours.

A good example

You feed a plant and its receiving 800 ppm when humidity is high 60%-80% and its growing wonderful no burn or any deficiency

Vs

You feed a plant and its receiving the same ppm "800" but the humidity is very low or none at all and thus the plant will drink more quickly and that can cause nutrient burn therefore you must lower the PPMs slightly to avoid this or raise humidity up.

Like you said he will get it after a few more grows. Our ladies tell us exactly what they want if we listen intuitively. Some can consume nutes like hogs eat slop, some barely need much feeding and grow like wildfire. I say ditch the charts, fall in love with what we do and the ladies will always tell you what they need, when they need it, and how much.

Temps play a roll in feed strengths too. Alot.of people dont know this
Agreed ... When they are in a very hot climate they drink ALLOT! causing excessive salt build up in the media over a given time period, eventually leading to a lockout down the road or deficiency or even toxicity.

Feeding charts are junk - throw it out

Also, tell him to get a lighted magnifier to check the trichomes for determining when to harvest

I've given up on schedules. Until I have the equipment that can dial a feeding schedule like I want I'm just letting my girls tell me what they need themselves.
