Hey guys just picked this one up. What's the range you re-water? My 3-gallon pot was on the mid to moist side of "dry" at top half, the dry side of the "moist" range at bottom. Nothing was "wet" or even on the wet side of "moist".
What's the magic area on this moisture meter?

I'm not sure what your meter is actually measuring but I assuming the moister of the soil.
I would recommend the traditional technique of weight to determine when to water

Thanks for all the creative alternatives - I have used them all. Trying to get a little more precise than "the finger" or "the weight" because I think I may be over-watering but wanted a more precise measurement. This is a useful toy sold in most hydro and other gardening stores. I paid $9. Also has a handy-dandy light meter on it. While not useful for absolute light, it is quite useful for comparing the intensity of 1-2" from a CFL, then setting a proper MH height to match in order to lessen light shock.

You can't get much more precise then lifting the pot. I can lift with one hand when dry. When wet, I'll crack the side if my cheap ass pot if I lift with one hand

Those meters are about as unreliable as things get. Put it in the bin where it belongs! (you'll thank me one day!)
