They did this last year too. What the hell is going on? Light compost mix for soil, bout 6 ish hours of sun. We've had rain here for the last 19 days but last year wasn't thjs wet and they ended up the same. So what is it that might be going on? Ive only picked a few so far and i got pickles on the brain. 20150701_191849.jpg

the soil lost a good amount of alkalinity after raining for almost 3 weeks? :)

did it get hot after it rained and maybe the soil heated up a bit, bare like that? even though it is only getting 6 hours, which also ain't enough....they like a full sun at least 12 hours...

Not enough light or heat I expect. Mine are thriving in temps of 35c+ daily with a light watering in the evening. Already took 3 crops, with more to come.

Could it be the reflective heat off of the fence causing the issues.....The only reason I say this is I recently put up a fence . Mrs. Oldtimer and I potted 2 huge lantana patio trees and placed them close to the fence and with in several days they looked terrible we had them for several years prior and they always looked beautiful. I tried watering them more.....I thought the repoting may be the cause but after several weeks of trying to solve the problem I moved one to another area and the problem went away. After several days I moved the other plant and that one too improved. The only thing I could think of was the heat from the afternoon sun beating down on the fence being an issue.

Temps have been crazy up and down from low 60s-90+. Fence is very old and probabky isnt reflecting much. As far as soil being washed clean...i suppose its possible but i amend pretty heavily and everything else is thriving.

Havent seen any bugs but i will take a closer look. How do i deal with cutworms if this is indeed the issue?
An old timer told me to take both ends off a can and put the can partway into the ground and plant your seeds/starts inside of it. The cutworms get right at the base or right underneath the soil, they cut right through the entire stalk.

Oh ok so if that is the case the plant is a loss huh? Just went out back and the stalks seem to be attatched at and below the soil. Plants are looking worse.

Yeah I've never saved a plant from cutworms. Could be something else entirely, sounded logical though, in my experience the cutworms chew off the entire stalk and the plant is detached at the base.

Ive done some more reading and it seems to me like it might be bacterial wilt caused by beetles. Unfortunately there is no saving them once the wilt sets in. Just do my best to battle the beetles(which i havent actually seen but it all adds up) and hope it doesnt spread to my other plants.

it's been my experience that plants with wilt may "perk up" some in the evening, early morning but degrade throughout the day. did you see any striped cuke beetles? you may want to spray for the beetles.

I haven't actually seen any beetles but plan to treat the remaining plants as precautionary measure. Im sad to say that this doesnt seem like a perk up at night situation. Definitely getting proggesivly worse and dying off.

yeah it all happens quick. i've used Sevin and Admire but you have to research the time to harvest interval.

wilt is sad
