theres truth here with strength of odour too, just because something reeks for 100 yards doesnt mean it has more potency than one of its less smelly cousins?, though as a general rule the smellier the better i think on average?

That's been my experience. I've grown a few stinkers that were nothing to write home about in other regards
 
I feel that both smell and trichomes are more for "bag appeal" but I like both so a good strain has smell, frost, taste, and buzz.

As far as dank... my buddy is having a real hard time with special queen #1 overwhelming his carbon filter.

i find them common too, the really frosty mutants that do not build colas but make little nuggets that look white from a distance with all the frost
i agree they do not seem any more potent and often they make me cough., too harsh :)

i find the really stinky ones are not as common as the frosty plants
when growing any given strain from seed

i am not so worried about the smell myself, i do like the taste to be right though
i would not keep a plant if it did not taste the way i like it , even if it was potent and good in all the other departments

Why turn the thread into does frost = potency. Obviously the size of the trichome is dirwctly related to what makes the trichome. This could be a large degree of waxes, or smelly non psychoactive terepenes. But most commonly all amounts have risen even if ratios skewed. The bigger the trichome head the more is inside relative to the waxy shell. The only thing produced inside the trichome head is stuff we want. So call it potency or dont. But smell and cannabinoids effect potency.

Move on? Check yourself buddy. This isn't toke n talk. Unless you have a degree in weed cultivation I don't think your opinion is any more valid than the next person. It has been MY experience that the amount of trichomes on a plant does not directly correlate to potency. Peyote Purple is a good example. one of the frostiest strains Ive ever seen, but mediocre potency and the lab results bare that out. ymmv

some plants will produce a larger percentage of capitate stalked glands, this could result in a plant that is fairly high in THC but does not appear to have a huge amount of resin
some plants will produce a larger amount of Capitate-Sessile /Bulbous glands but produce less capitate stalked this would result in a plant that produces lots of resin but has lowish THC
 
its possible too that the oil contained in the capitate glands varies in actual power? eg low grade hash oil compared to high grade hash oil per volume...so that a bud with lots of trichs may have a type of low grade oil contained in its capitate glands compared to a plant with lesser amount of trichs but with a highter potency oil type in its capitate glands, thereby making the possibility the bud with the lesser amount of trichs but with the higher potency type oil a more powerful experience?...dont quote me...pure speculation here

i do not know about this ^^ :)

the majority of thc is concentrated in the capitate stalked glands, you are supposed to harvest when they appear cloudy for max THC
i guess its possible that some plants make larger capitate stalked glands than others too which contain more thc

i think the ratio of the higher thc glands to the lower ones is more important for thc potency along with the overall amount and size of the capitate stalked glands
along with harvest time, i find that weed taken early is more psychoactive, this is when THC is perhaps not at its highest but cbd is very low or virtually zero
i think it only takes a very small amount of cbd to diminish/alter the affect of thc

D9thc is D9thc, as far as i know

it seems like you're asking the equivalent of .. is the ethanol alcohol in beer the same as the ethanol in whiskey

does whiskey get you more drunk because it has more ethanol or if beer had as much ethanol as whiskey would it get you just as drunk
or does whiskey have a more powerful type of ethanol in it ?

yes this is what im trying to say, nitrofuel has more bang in it than standard gasoline per volume, im suggesting thc from different strains possibly have their own unique power of character...like homoeopathic medicines...just a wild speculation

my scientist friend has assured me that if you had a big enough microscope you would be able to see that this molecule of ethanol is a "ethanol whiskey molecule"

looks like a little doggy to me :) but then i am not a scientist
apparently with a beer ethanol molecule the doggy has a smaller nose
