When can I clone?

Hey all,

So here's 1 of my little seedlings at 2 weeks. When is it possible to clone in order to sex. I just want to sex the clone (dont want to use it). I've heard (from a good source) that when the plant reaches 5/6 nodes I can clone.

Also those 2 leaves just above the cotyldons - do you count them as a node? How long should it take for them to reach a size when I can clone? (they've just moved from cfl to 400w hps)

not for a while. you need branches with two nodes on then to cut off

Yeah but if I want to top the plant then I just use the top as the clone no?

i dunno theyre young you should wait till you can take a few at a time besides you wouldnt chop a fully grown plant in half

I'm not sure how true it is but i've been told to wait 2 months til a mother plant is mature to clone from but i'm sure you must be able to do it earlier cos 2 months is a long time to wait

is this the first set of 5 tip leafs?? if yes then the next set will prob b 7 tipped...... once u get ur 1st set of true leaves (5/7/9 tips depending on plant)..... wait for the next 3 nodes or 3 sets of fan leaves.... top this off an clone......

after ur seed sprouts u get a set of round leaves.... next a set of single tip leaf.... then set of 3 tipped leaf.... and 5 tipped and 7 tipped and 9 tipped true leaf.....
what ever b the max tips of ur plant.....by this time ur plant should be atleast 6 inches tall.....

this is the recomended hight or age when u can top a plant

now wait for another set of 3 true leaves.... this is what u can top and use for cloning.....

top these off and use for cloning.... the topped plant will start branching.....

i dont know how well u know cloning so i would recomend top and clone 1 plant at a time...... even if u lose this 1st clone u can try with the rest over the next 30 days and by that time the 1st topped plant will already have branches to clone again

Well I'm in no real rush but 2 months is a bit overboard. I just wanna clone as soon as possible to see which are female.

Thanks yemin, sound advice as usual. Yeah those are the first set of 5 tipped. I have cloned before but from a mother that was already large. So prob about another 3-4 weeks before I can top then?

MJ will usually show sex naturally around the 5th or 6th node. Just be patient

Yeah big diff under the 400... starting to shoot up now. I've put em all in there except two stragglers which I'll leave for another few days under cfl's. I love it when shit starts to come together.... although I must admit, starting from seed is a bit of a mission. I had such an awesome clone guy back home.

Haha, yeah he was great. solid strains, healthy clones, and cheap ($5 US).

As for 15 days.... just hold on a few more, if nothing then I'll send mine your way even if I dont know sex.... I'm sure I'll get 1 female out of 6.

You can clone has soon has the plant has a couple ofoff shot brance's i'v took clone's with just 2 nodes and they grew fine but i would not advic it this was desperate times when i realy needed a couple of extra plants because the mother was dieing on me.i left someone to look after the plants while i was away and i cloned the f@ck ot of them.i did this just to be on the safe side but they still managed to kill all my plants there was 2 out shoots at the very bottom of one of the plants the rest was dead i cut these off and cloned has normal and they survived infact i still have the off spring of these plants 2 years later.but i would wait till the plants have at least a few nodes on them at least 4,i never take the top has i think that this slows growth.but the answer is when the plant has 1/2off shoots that have at least 4 nodes but it can be done with 2 nodes.let your plants gain some height and width by haveing the lights has close has possible you should be able to get at least 30/40 clones off a plant a foot high but get them lights low then you will get more nodes more nodes more cuttings.

Thanks tyke... their first off shoots are coming through now. How close can I put these little ones to the light? In my previous setup I had it about 6" above, but these guys aren't clones, so I dunno what I'm dealing with.

an dont send anything b4 u sex those plants...... i got somthing growing now an all girls...... cant leave u dry there......
