When can I take clones?

I currently have 2 plants in week 4 of veg and I was just wondering when I should aim to take some cuttings? Also, can I take a cutting without taking a top?
I’m planning on flowering the 2 plants in a couple weeks or so

As I said they’re 4 weeks old, this week has seen the most growth so last week wasn’t really an option for getting a cutting but thanks for the input, mind explaining why you would’ve taken them a week ago so I have the information for the future?
And if I am able to get a clone without taking a top would that not be ideal? So that the top that would have been taken will grow into some nice bud when switched to flower..
Unfortunately there is very little room available and that is why they will be switched early. Thanks

I usually take my cuttings from the top because it splits and will be 2. And I do it a well before I intend to flower because they need time to heal after you cut them and time to grow the 2 tops. But I understand your situation. Most growers prune the bottom of their plant just before flower to get rid of the small stuff. I would imagine those would be ideal for cuttings.im no pro by all means. Just what I do

You should aim to take cuttings when the plant is big enough to have cuttings large enough to clone. Most people take them shortly before they flower a plant. I also like to take the lower branches.

Thanks. I’m just a bit confused, are you topping your plants and using those tops as clones? I topped/fimmed both plants about a week ago so they have already got 2 tops.
Or are you saying that when you take your clones from the top that they split into two?
this is my first grow so I’m quiet new to this, sorry if I’m not making any sense lol
Cheers
