Okay, so I was in IRC earlier today. People who know me know that I rarely go into IRC but they also know that I've been a member of this forum for awhile and I am almost never involved in any sort of conflict with other members or mods.
Today was different, however. The moment I joined IRC I joined in a conversation about medical marijuana laws. The trolls were apparently out in full-force as evidenced when I joined in and talked about laws in Washington state. Of course, one of them immediately responded with 'hahaha we don't really care'. I ignored him anyway, while for whatever reason he attempted to shit on everything I said afterward obviously just intent on picking an internets fight. Not surprisingly, he spoke like a 4chan member going on about furries and such as if they're even an issue in a marijuana IRC chatroom but I guess twelve year olds think this sort of thing is cool or whatever.
At some point the conversation turned to intelligence when I mentioned the politicians think that the American people are stupid and then I mentioned how scientists have said that they believe that homosapiens are evolving and the next iteration will be more intelligent and physically attractive. Then I said verbatim, "but there will always be stupid people who'd rather jump off a bridge than read a book" and I mentioned redneck wannabe nascar drivers as being the stereotype for this. The trolls and moderator YourLocal420 didn't like this at all. They somehow inferred that I meant that all nascar fans and/or nascar drivers are rednecks and I tried to explain the nature of stereotypes and how just because most rednecks want to be race car drivers doesn't mean that all race car drivers or fans are rednecks but they weren't having it. I was silenced for 5 min and after brooding untilI I was able to come back I basically said rednecks exist, get over it. Stereotypes can be applied to every single culture that exists and it doesn't mean that everyone fits those. Stereotypes are simply common behaviors exhibited by a given group.
Trolls such as Delusional, MrHemp-whatever, and phx didn't like this. They began calling me names such as MrMcdouche, saying things like 'and who're you to say that" etc. So I told them who I am. I am a selfmade journalist and genius with a 9th grade formal education who has written articles featured on the NORML blog, four front-page stories for the local paper and dozens of smaller articles since July of last year. I write about quantum physics (mechanics of non-locality, time and space, the philosophical implications of quantum physics), philosophy, politics, marijuana law reform, and much more. I am also currently competing for an award from the Pulitzer foundation.
They liked this even less and so they began insulting journalism and journalists, being generally inflammatory, writing things like "you ain't shit here we grow better than yours, my penis is larger hurdur" in all caps and so forth and I told one of the trolls that I didn't care what he thought, and I told him to suck something. Yes sir, I sure did. Then I was banned by YourLocal420 who cited 'Staff abuse'. Not really fair. He was one of the people outraged by what I said about rednecks, silencing me saying that he'd had enough of my generalizations (never mind the fact that I wasn't generalizing anything but stupid peoiple and even then I acknowledged that it doesn't apply to everyone) Up until I said what I said, I actually hadn't called anyone in there a name, unlike my opposition who had already resorted to such juvenile tactics. So a moderator with some insecurity issues decided to ban a journalist from IRC, because he made a kinda-sorta-maybe off-colored remark about rednecks liking nascar? Gee, that sure is reasonable. I sure hope the people who run this site aren't condoning such gross misconduct and abuse of administrator priveledges on the part of moderators who allow the troll population to grow exponentially under their watch.
Let us not forget that stupidity is exactly what bred prohibition so I can't believe that anyone who is serious about fighting it can be so narrow minded but it's whatever. He abused his power because he thought that what I said applied to him. Who knows, maybe it did. Only he could answer that question but there are some complete IRC logs that will vindicate me, and expose his wrongdoing for what it was. Miscommunication? Perhaps. But it still doesn't justify the double standard.
I'd really like some justice from administrators by 1) removing the ban and 2) Issuing some sort of verbal disciplinary warning to the moderator who abused his power. Dunno if I'll get those things, but that is exactly what I am petitioning for.
I have seen way more nasty flamewars go on here in which BOTH parties went unpunished. There is absolutely no justification for this sort of behavior at all. There are some journalists who'd take the oppurtunity to write a blistering editorial about RIU, especially ones as involved in the cannabis community as I am (Rolli, you can speak to GT or intri if you want to find out who I am, just keep it between us) but I'm not like that. I like this site. I usually like the people on it and I usually like the people running it. I just don't have the time or desire to be a vindictive asshat. All I am asking is for some consideration. Please make right this wrong.
Peace.
