When I ask: do you believe literally? I get willful moral and intellectual dissonance

Every time I ask: do you believe literally? I get willful moral and intellectual dissonance.

Please see how this clip ends.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mRYiplTf3I

I believe that Jesus believed, is what that last gent speaking in this clip uses as his reason for believing the unbelievable story of Lot. He is forgiving a God who is obviously doing evil just because he can blame his poor moral position on Jesus.

This type of willful moral and intellectual dissonance is what I get from many Christians who will forgive their God for things they condemn people for doing.

If morals are not the most important issue for God or Christians, then what is the most important aspect of religion to you as a believer?

Are literalists idol worshipers? The last speaker seems to be one as he ignores his own true beliefs to follow his idol, Jesus even as he doubts the morality and reality of the story of Lot.

The purpose of being a Christian is to try to be as Christlike as possible, in my opinion.

We will all fall short of what our contemporary notion of the nature of Christ. But the point is the effort.

Where we fall short is where Christ comes in and stands in the gap. All we need do is ask for his forgiveness and it is given.

Your use of the story of Lot is a good choice to try to make your point. God did not do anything to Lot, he allows the devil to do things, what god does for Lot is to be there at the end for his salvation.

You are making a common error that non-Christians make often. You are placing your notion of the importance of this life into others. A Christian is not that concerned with this life at the end of the day. We know it is just a temporary existence.

You believe we are human beings having a spiritual experience.

Christians believe we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Corporeal man is the keeper of our soul. Without your body the soul has no home and cannot exist. We are living souls. Read our bible and stop disrespecting the kingdom of God.

Some believer are so miss-guided. God damned churches do not know how to teach about God and reality.

BTW. True that I am not a Christian. I follow the real Jesus and am a Gnostic Christian. Perhaps you should look into it. It will help with your disrespect of your own body and worth.

Ohh, a gnostic.

So you saw something on the history channel, thought it was cool, got online and found other idiots who didn't have a clue...

A true gnostic Christian would not start off a sentence with "I am not a Christian."

The Gnostics have been extinct for over a millennia, you're just pretending. Probably had religion shoved down your throat a little too much by mom or dad, eh?

No but since you did not refute anything and just did a kneejerk insult. I would say I hit the mark.

Thanks for showing your maturity level.

you are the one who decided to start throwing the insults.

Baseless allegations of me disrespecting my body, and the kingdom of god are not exactly words that foster productive dialogue.

If you want to me to refute, I shall.

You said the following; "without your body, the soul cannot exist."

That is about the most absurd thing I think I have ever heard anyone say, it is ass backwards.

Most people of faith believe in an afterlife, and if you are a Christian of any kind you do also.

Since we know that when death comes in this world, our body is what is left behind, and our soul goes onto the afterlife.

So it would seem that the body cannot exist, in a living state, without the soul. Which is the opposite of your statement.

Describe your soul and how it work in life and death and then I will give you the real description that I gleaned from my apotheosis. You have hear say I have personal experience and an un-prooven theory. To me, that s better than hearsay.

Then you will see why our bodies are so important and why, as a living soul, it dies along with our bodies.

Correct. They do not need to. Consciousness is what is important in us. That gets uploaded, so to speak, by the soul, which I describe as just a conduit, so to speak, to get the more important consciousness into the Godhead That Godhead Idescribe as a cosmic consciousness. The ancients shawman probably called it heaven.

Weird to you I am sure but not to those whobelieve in souls

it is no more or less weird than more mainstream theology.

I don't give much though to how my soul works, because I will never know, until possibly when I die. It is one of those things that I cannot know in this life. Therefore I don't devote much effort to it, but delight in reading the thoughts of others.

So if you post something here explaining in detail your beliefs. I will read it within a day or two and get back to you on it.

This is not too detailed but you will get the idea.

You do not need to die to know what I think I know as fact. Apotheosis is real.

The soul is basically a transmitter. Transmitters do not go to heaven but what they transmit does.

I do recognize though that to a non-believer, it is all BS. Such is life. I do not particularly care.

You must be a happy guy without religion, and that is good, but a little bit less laughing might improve your thinking.

Your poor attempt at ridicule just runs off my back like water off a duck's so you might not want to keep wasting your time making yourself look immature.

The most likely scenario is the one that makes the least amount of assumptions, e.g. when you die, you're dead. No soul, no heaven, no hell. Just infinite nothing.

The one with the least number of assumptions will tell you that we are not really here. Right?

No? The fact that we're having this conversation and I'm thinking of how to respond to you, is at the very least, proof that I exist. Not sure about your existence though.

There are some assumptions that we generally have to make, e.g. we exist, our senses aren't totally deceiving us, etc. in order to survive. Believing in a soul, or god is not one of them.

You assume that I would lie when I have no motive to or are delusional without a history of it.

You break your own rules for the least assumptions. And I don't are.

We are going off topic though so do not expect a reply to whatever you will likely choose to close with. I do not play these games for long. Sorry.

Where did this come from? I never said anything of the sort.

You break your own rules for the least assumptions. And I don't are.
Now I'm apparently a hippocrite because I 'broke my own rules' by stating a premise that I never said.

All you've done so far is create a strawman, accuse me of playing games, and proceeded to act like you won the discussion. lol

I never said any of it was bullshit, when getting into questions and thoughts about theology and metaphysics... things that do not deal with reality, everything has just as much of a chance of being true as it does of being false.. they are unanswerable questions, unless you pretend you have the answers.

Do god/gods exist? Do souls exist? Is there an afterlife? Is this a dream? Is this a computer simulation? Am i really just a brain in a vat? No one knows the answers to these questions DL.

One thing is that I can live with doubt and uncertainty and not knowing. I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, in different degrees of certainty, about different things. But I'm not absolutely sure of anything and there are many things I don't know anything about, such as whether it means anything to ask why we're here and what the question might mean. I might think about it a little bit, if I can't figure it out, then I go onto something else. But I don't have to know an answer. I don't feel frightened by not knowing things.

At least i don't pretend to know things that i don't really know... even if you refuse to realize that this is exactly what you are doing.
