When life gives you lemons, make Lemon Penetration

Hi everyone. Welcome to my first grow journal for my first indoor grow! Feel free to grab a seat and make yourself at home. Just keep it friendly and constructive please.


Strain: Bodhi Seeds' Lemon Penetration
Medium: B'Cuzz Coco Coir, Sunshine Perlite
Containers: Smart Pots #1 and #5
Nutrients: Hydroponic Research Veg+Bloom (RO), +Size and +Life
Lights: Area 51 XGS-190 for veg, 1kW HPS for bloom
Grow Room: Approximately 10' x 8' x 7½' – 600 cubic feet

I'm using a 5-stage water filter system for my RO water supply. Great drinking water for my plants and me.

I soaked the seeds in an 8 oz. glass of RO water the night of March 17. #1 cracked open within 12 hours and was put into a small 4" container of pure coco. #2 and #3 cracked by the evening of March 18; #4 was ready by the morning of March 19. I woke up March 22 to find all four seedlings' cotyledons breaking through the surface. They were in a humidity dome under a 25W CFL until March 27 – since then I have put them into my grow room with one of my XGS-190s on 100W setting, kind of near the edge of the footprint. They perk up like they're enjoying it.

This past Sunday, April 5, I transplanted into Smart Pot #1s with some added perlite. On Monday I gave each plant about a liter of water with a half-strength dose of food. They have greened up a bit since these photos were taken. LP#1 - #4 from left to right:

I topped #1 and #2 two days ago; #3 and #4 will be topped either tomorrow or Wednesday morning.

#2 is having explosive root growth that's giving the Smart Pot five o'clock shadow. There's minor edge curling on some of the leaves on all four plants, so I will be keeping a closer eye on things.

looking good....... make sure you give them plenty of wind to make them stems are sturdy for the fruits that will come...

Thanks guys! @perspextoe I have a fan blowing a gentle breeze in their direction. Definitely noticed a hardening of the stems.

Well, I went in my room 20 minutes ago to turn the lights on. A POS rodent feasted on #1 sometime within the past six and a half hours. Three leaves were chewed off, and parts of a few other leaves are missing. It should be able to make a recovery though... Frustrating as hell to see this happen with how smoothly things have been running.

Expect the unexpected, I guess. Stupid rodent....

Time for a progress report:

Since my last update I have topped all four plants and up-potted into Smart Pot #5s. Yesterday I began LST and trimmed some of the undergrowth.

#1 has the least amount of stretch; much more bushy than the others. I really want this one to be female.
#2 and #3 have about equal stretch, #3 slightly wider fan leaves.
#4 very stretchy and stalky, almost the opposite of #1. I hope it's a male....

I'm guessing #1-2 are female and #3-4 are male. But I won't know until I begin flowering in three weeks.
