When they say .5 grams per watt.....

1/2 Gram of Dry Sinsemilla Per Watt of Emitted Light is where u want to aim if u grow with CFL's.. If ur using a HID bulb then set ur sights for 1 Gram Per Watt.

the .5 or 1g/watt would be total.. like if you have a 400 watt light you would want 200-400g total dry weight..

for LEDs it can shoot from 1g/watt and up if you do it right and have a good LED color array for growing. 1g/1watt is much harder to attain with HID though

There is no evidence to suggest that LEDs perform BETTER than HIDs. They are being considered as a suitable alternative & they're only 'just' considered as not many of the lights out there actually work, & the 1's that do cost an absolute fortune..

well thats very true because its still debatable. all im saying is that LED give more key lumens per watt, so yes its very necessary to get the right colors that work. otherwise its energy effeciently NOT ABSORBED. not to say i havent seen amazing result with HID. but i cant exactly go rip out a street light and call it an HID grow bulb. In my opinion LED offers much more potential for G/watt. its not even that expensive if you shop smart or even build some yourself with a little time.
