When to flower with CFLs

I have 8 42W CFLs for flowering. If luck is with me I have 2 females to flower. I've read that flowering with CFLs can be hard because they dont have much light penetration. So my question is how long should I keep veging? I don't want my plants to get too big for the amount of lighting I have. P.S. I use LST on both plants. Thanks all! This site is awesome, people here are so helpful. We should setup some kind of RIU meet and greet trip to Amsterdam! :eyesmoke:

The penetration may not be as good on CFLs but if you're training properly, it shouldn't matter what type of lighting your using to determine flower. I vegetatively grow for 4 weeks (2 24/0, 2 18/) and then flower, by this time I will have 3 or 4 true sets of internodes and I can do trimming to the under canopy to divert growth to the top colas. You sound like you have adaquate lighting, I've flowered with less. Good luck mate, let me know if you need anything

hey... I just went through your journal, nice man props I am also first time growing so I am not incredibly knowledgable but you can flower whenever you think there big enough to have the amount of yeild you desire (from what I understand) And based on your grow your pretty good at that LST thing so it seems as though space won't be an issue... also while I'm sure everyone has told you this and you do have alot of cfls... but you ship get some beter lights like spend 25$ on a 175 watt hps bulb at any hardware store and add it too the cfls... if you can if not you'll still do ok, good grow man

out and about with a blunt in my mouth peace

Thanks Kush and Luva! I am trying to stay away from HPS just because my CFLs already heat the closet so much I have to pump cool air in.

thats the thing I dont like about cfls, they suck at flowering, low yeilds with them compared to hps. I'm guessing if you will still continue with cfls into flowering that you shouldnt grow the plants for more than a month unless you plan on getting some more powerfull light. hope that helps. :bigjoint:
