When to pick fan leaves when budding ?

To pick ... or ...not to pick. Fan leaves that is ..... I am at the half way point through budding of my plant. About 3 weeks of budding. When should I pick the big fan leaves? or should I leave them on the plant ?? Any suggestion whould be great.

never pick the fan leaves off your plant. the leaves absorb the sun so the plant can grow.

the only time to pick fan leaves are when you have harvested your plant.

god i hate the word budding. its flowering.

Thanks. I use to pick the really big ones off when I had the buds about 3 to 4 weeks into budding stage.

your plant needs light to grow via photosynthesis... whether its bud growth or veg growth..

it absorbs the light through the fan leaves and other leaves on the plant..

removing these leaves only stands to lessen the amount of total light the plant can absorb..

not to mention it stress the plant a little....

i am a big advocate on only removing growth under 2 conditions...

1) you are lollipopping your plant(s) for flowering

2) the growth is 50% or more dead

so my vote would be to leave them on.. if you want to allow more light penetration to the lower part of the plant either tie branches so they are out of the way to give more light... or just move them out of the way the best you can...

once they turn yellow can u pick them off?

Is it important for the flwers to get sungight ? Does the big fan leaves covering the flowers prevent sunlight for flowers and will this lead to smaller buds if they are not getting enough light? I am very limited in my outdoor grow space.

you can gently try to remove the yellowed leaves if you want.. they should damn near drop off without any force from you if they are ready to fall... i do this so i dont have dead leaves stuck in the lower branches... but i only remove the leaves that come off with the SLIGHTEST touch...

Thanks simpson. I usually leave them on but maybe forgot. I usually lollipop them. This is taking the really big fan leaves off and making the flower stems look like individuals right? I have a indic big fan leaf stain. 3 month to flower seeds i guess or I plant them late for smaller plants. Space limited! Outdoors.

or some ppl pick fan leaves in veg stage to stimulate bushiness if you pick one often two more grow back to replace it, however stressing one portion of a plant will cause decrease in overall growth. roots vertical growth ect.

lollipopping is actually removing whole branches from the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the plant to allow it to focus on top growth...

if you are growing outdoors you have the biggest light bulb available.. the sun light can penetrate very well through a lot of foliage.. think of the jungles that have a solid tree canopy and still have growth 100's of feet below them... there is definitely no need to remove them if you are outside...
