I'm sure it was already mentioned...but a sexually mature plant shows pistols in veg...my guess would be that the breeder is not forcing his plants to show sex, but putting them in the flower room when they are ready to flower rather than forcing the issue...I believe this is where they get the days, and yes conditions make a difference.
this is the only thing i've seen that is just as important as the countdown. if you're plants are showing pistils in veg. seeing pistils the 1st day you switch to 12/12 is going to have you chopping a week or 2 early. start counting when you see MORE than a few pistils. these are the beginnings of the flowering stage, NOT at the 1st sign of pistils. that 1st week is the plant switching to flower. think of it this way, you can't go forward until the car is in the right gear, for plants, it may take it a week to get it into drive. the countdown should be viewed as a large window to harvest. every plant is different, and so are the conditions in which each grow. that being said, one may be done a week earlier, or a week later. get a scope and decide when to harvest yourself, don't go by an artificial timetable under seemingly perfect conditions.
