When to start the flower clock????

When do you start counting the days of flower? At the start of 12 and 12, or the first sign of calyx formation?
I have heard many different answers to this question, so any feedback would be awesome.

i always start counting from the day after 12/12 then run till its ready

Usually you don't count the first week of 12/12. Why? Because the plant takes that long to switch from a vegetative stage to the flowe stage. That first week is called the transition stage.

Makes sense, so basically you start counting days right before you start seeing flowers?

I start counting as soon as I see the pistils forming.

i dont count, i check trich's.

For a reference you count from the day of flipping to 12/12. If a seed company says something will finish in 49 days...well actually it will probably take 65, never mind. If someone you know tells you a strain takes 70 days to flower they are talking about 70 days of 12/12.

I'm in the camp of waiting a week then start my count. Remember day counts are only a "guide" the trichs as stated earlier will give you your chop day. GL

I like to count from first day of pistils, that way it kinda tricks me into thinking I didn't have to wait so long.

I think that the reason we see the same strain reported on one site as a 8-9 weeks strain and other sites report the same strain as 10-11. everyone does it differently. I always start the clock the day I switch them over to 12/12. however I always go an extra week.

Thanks guys, its nice to get a whole collective of ideas. Everyone has there own methods to their madness. I always do chop based on trich stage, but it is always nice to have a general reference as to how long a particular strain takes to flower, especially if you run that strain time after time. I'm just trying to make sense out of all of the discrepancies between breeder's and grower's flower times for a specific strain. I like what many of you have said about true flower starting after the transition, because technically that plant is still vegging for that first week or so of 12/12.

I like this, because if you think outdoor the sun doesn't all of a sudden just go 12/12. You are giving them a nice seamless transition. I've always done a 18/6>>16/8>>14/10>>12/12. And who knows, maybe that abrupt change of light stress them a bit. I've heard of some people doing a 48 hour darkness before their 12/12, which I think does more harm than good, just be patient and let them do what they natural do.
