When to Top plants?

HI!! I am about 5 weeks in and my plants are about 8 or so inches tall. I want to top them but im not sure when a good time to do it is. When is a perfect time to top your plants?

wait till you get 5 nodes and top back to the fourth one.

I usually top mine when there's about 5 or 6 true nodes.

Im trying to FIM mine atm. Right after the 3rd node. Don't listen to me if your not sure what to do, I don't wanna mess up your crop.
