when to trim?

Just curious on peoples different methods. I've always hanged my buds then trim and cure, but I see all the time that people trim prior to hanging. What do you do? What are the benefits of your methods and which have you found easier?

I cut the plants down. I take each main stem and remove the fan leaves, not including the leaf stem. I then clip off the tiny leaves around the bud at the stem when i can or at the tips so they are almost flush with the bud. I then toss the cleaned bud, which is now about the size of a lighter into a tub.

Once im done, i put a peice of cheese cloth over the tub and have a fan blow on it in a crawl space. Twice a day i stir the buds. In about a week, they are ready to cure.

As this is going on, i cut up the trim and do the same thing. It doesnt take as long to dry this. I then use all this for joints.

I like o trim before the leaves droop...

I think it is easier to trim while the leaves are still sticking out..

But I like to GET IN THERE and remove ALL the leaf material from my buds... not just a "beard trim"...

Just how I do it.. I am sure there are as many ways as there are growers...lol...

that's why I started this thread, I want to here the many different trim methods. Seems boring to some, but since I spend countless hours aquiring carpal tunnel syndrome doing so it seemed like a good topic. I may try trimming prior this time around to see if I like it better, its a tedious job no matter what. What kind of scissors do you use?

I don't have a hobby shop near by so I'm stuck with walmarts crap selection

I wish they carried the nice spring loaded trimmers. At least at the store near me they don't. I haven't really looked online, never really been a big online shopper.I try to support my local hydroshop as much as I can, even though I know I can get better deals online.

I use a small, gold colored pair of hair cutting scissors, from Walmart to trim. I usually sit the plant in front of me and remove the large fan leaves first. Then I remove individual branches, starting with the top and working my way around and down. This way I can also take a break if I get tired, no big deal. I trim before I hang, because I freeze my trim fresh, for making Gumby hash.

What's gumby hash? Yeah, I like to make a lot of butter. I've never tried making any kind of hash.

Search it out on YouTube - some great videos on it there. It's a pretty easy method of making hash without bubble bags.

I use kitchen sheers. The kind that can cut thru chickens.

triming buds helps keep mold away .bud dries even, curing is an art if you work as hard to cure as you did to grow!

I will deff trim before this time to see the contrast. I haven't had mold in prior drys but have always worried about it. I've been fighting powder mold for two weeks now with about one week left and its been a stressfull nightmare. It hasent gotten out of control but I've never had it and don't ever want it again. I got a sulfur burner for future grows(couldn't use this time around due to neem applications) but that makes sense. Thanks +rep

I like to rip off all the fan leaves with gloved hands, then trim each branch over a rubbermaid container to collect the trim, then hang. Usually hang for 2-3 days, then cut off buds into a paper bag where they stay for a few days, then to the mason jars for a proper cure.

Have to agree--it's a tedious process. I use orange flower/garden snips that are spring loaded with a fine blade. Expensive buggers.

I see a lot of people trim and cut their goods down to buds, then spread the buds evenly on a screen to dry. Any buds that I don't like for whatever reason, I cut off into my trim rubbermaid container. Unless I make hash, this trim+buds gets a fan blown over it and shaken twice daily until dry--it actually works great, but I would be concerned about mold issues with larger amounts.

Trimming is by far my least favorite part of the entire process. Probably because it's the most work
