When to use Mh light on seedlings?

When the plants sprout,(about the size of a pinky) how long does one wait to use a Mh 400 watt light on them?

I read some guy fried his plants because of too much light?

4 cfl's is what the light setup is for them. Want to use a mh but not sure if its too soon. THanks

I have had my 400w MH on 18/6 since sprout. I have it approx 30 inches from the plants and have had no sign of burns at all as long as my room temps stay below 82 im fine. If you start the light out too close or let your room get too hot then you could kill them either with burn or heat buildup. I have no problems from seedling but everyone has their own opinions. But I think some people keep them under floros or cfls for a week or so. I do what works for me and never had an issue. Good Luck

You can use your 400W MH on your seedlings, but like BluBerry said just dont put the light too close to the seedlings and make sure the room temp isn't too hot. Contrary to what i initially believed, they wont die as a result of too much light, but they will die from too much heat. Just gradually get them used to the 400W. Check my journal out for more info. Best of luck!

i sprout under a small VHO t5 setup of 2 bulbs. It is about an inch above the 2" dome until the dome comes off a few days after them sprout.

I then bring them immediately outside for full sunlight as long as the light is shining nice and brightly!

Only bad thing after taking a photo is that tomorrow i'm gonna have to raise the light up about an inch or transplant...

Once i transplant, they'll be under a 400W MH when they're not outside in the sun.
