I wouldn't call myself a libertarian, but I'm also socially liberally, and somewhat conservative, fiscally. I certainly don't subscribe to prefabricated molds, but I guess I'm more liberal than conservative.

As a nation, we're in a perpetual state of flux, so you can never gauge where we stand ideologically over a long period of time. We react quite a bit.

I think that charity is much more effective than giving money to one moneychanger to dole out "evenly" It is a fact that when people have a decent living wage and are able to rather steadily accumulate a nice nest egg with wise investing and being thrifty, the majority of the united states at least follow simple moral ethics. If people have it, they are more likely to give it. Simple.

The liberal programs in the US have been in place for almost 50 years now. And the poverty rate hasn't changed. But globally, the proportion of the world's population living in poverty according to UN figures has been cut in half. Now why is that? because liberal welfare programs don't work, and because economic development and creation of personal freedom and opportunity does work.
 
Typical of a liberal run city would be Inglewood, California. Just outside of the Los Angeles city limits, the "great thinkers" on the Inglewood City Council decided to vote down the proposed building of a WalMart Superstore in their city. Inglewood is like a lot of inner cities ... it suffers from a poverty-stricken underclass of African-Americans and poor Hispanics. That proposed WalMart equated to lots of new jobs and inexpensive food and dry goods for the citizens of Inglewood. In spite of the benefits, they voted it down anyway ... just to get back at "The Man."
