I heard that autoflowers don't do very well outside due to their size. Potential for predators and low survival from bugs/weather. Anyone that can shed some light on this?

I think a major reason that autos won't do well outdoors is mostly because of how quickly they finish.

Autoflowering plants are pretty much done in 9-10 weeks; basically they skip the vegging stage. So basically, you're racing against time....how quickly can you get this plant to grow from seed in 9-10 weeks???

A lot of the sweet pics you see on this site of autos are growers who give their plants 20+ hours of light a day. With all that light, you can see how the plant can reach its full potential in about 2 months.

BUT, if you're growing outdoors exclusively, you NEED to have a good amount of direct sunlight, or the autoflowering plant won't get large enough to produce a sizable amount of stash..

The strain I linked to, Bonkers, has a lower percentage of ruderalis, so it does have a short veg period, and supposedly puts off fat colas, granted, I'm going off of a couple grow reports, so my opinion is just that. Also, I've heard that you can grow Paradise Automaria outdoors.

yeah the only reason im going with autos outside is cuz i live in alaska during the summer we get like 1-2 hours of darkness and in the middle of the summer dont even get that much but lots of other people from other places in the world are growing autos outdoors too
