Bulb companies DO NOT make a vertical.and a horizontal specific bulb. Its anot prifitable. For fucks sake ppl, wake the fuck up. Are you that gullable in thinking this way. Christ this world is turning to utter shit!

Philips make a t9 and t12 bulb. Do your homework

i bought boulderlamp.com 315 cdl's,, i paid 500 a piece for them back in 2013,, i like that the boulder runs the bulb horizontally in the reflector..the draw back is that the ballast is mounted ontop of the reflector,,but i still find it runs way cooler than 600 watt hps's w 6inch tube reflector. if i was to buy one today id probably go w sun system just because ive heard good things.. i really like the look of the greanbeam cyclops but cant see paying over 500 for any brand..has anyone used and had experience w the grean beam??
what 315 is cheapest today? cant u get the sun sytem for like 420 now?? anybody used the hydro farm cdl? i heard that one was priced well...
but price isnt as important as function.. who wants a cdl u have to replace the ballasts on?? reliability,, i had the first 2 boulders go out w/in 2 years i guess there wer ballast problems but they replaced them,, i only had to pay shipping..
what system is most reliable??? i would buy the most reliable cdl,, i mean they all run the same bulb's and the bulb is what grows the plants.. why are most cdl's verticle?? is there an advantage to verticle bulbs?? i thought horizontal bulbs had better coverage??? is that false,,why and wich is better??

With all due respect Demon. It is easy to read Phillips specs for the 315's.

They are designed for vertical mount in an open fixture (the sun system style one) and the new base is specially designed to make better contact than a mogul socket and has better vibration cancelling properties.

The square wave ballast can then run the hotter higher pressure bulb to the max par.

Not arguing your results but the bulbs can not run near their potential the way you have them set up.

Just the mogul socket compromises the performance. And putting them under glass kills the uv they added.

I am sure these are all minor percentages of total performance though.

Why are you so angry?

When doing my homework I came across threads here stating running the cmh horizontal can result in an increase of about 100k and 2% decrease in efficiency.

Lol

So be cause SS used a bulb vertically in a hood, means that they make a bulb for vert, then another one for horizontal positions, THEN another style for open and enclosed hoods. You are an idiot

I never said the bulb wasn't universal mount.

I said the above parameters were the way the bulb puts down max par. And that sun system worked with Phillips for the release of this tech.

Cycliptics Green Beams and Sun System LEC reflectors were designed for that bulb specifically.

you think Phillips intended on using a cheap mogul adaptor after engineering their new base for higher performance?

Or running it through glass to filter out the uv they just built in with their new agro spectrum?

Or even air cooling them to reduce the optimal operating temp?

So because a hydro store sells something it has no compromises? Or is even safe?

HTG still sells the old single jacketed 400 in an open fixture. As a cheap option to the 315 set ups.

But it is an open wing reflector they offer and it is a single jacketed metal halide bulb that can explode on failure.

Sure your mogal adapters are safe?

Maybe that's why your off brand ballasts are running so hot?

You didn't have to be a dick.

All these are SunPlix CMH grow lights. The last one is double ended grow light, you can use 630W DE CMH, 1000W DE HPS/MH bulbs.
