Which end should a Carbon Filter go on?

I was at the local hydroponic store speaking with the owner. He was trying to sell me an upgrade and I was confused as to the diagram he drew.

He said you have the carbon in the cabinet, carbon filter connectes to exhaust fan, then the exhaust just goes out the cabinet. basically saying you suck the air through the carbon.

Aren't you suppose to have the carbon on the other end of the exhaust so it's blowing the air through it?

Can you do both?

I really dont have that much room and would prefer to blow the air out instead of sucking it through. i cant imagine even a fan with a high rating of 400+cfm being very good if it has to suck air through the carbon...

thoughts?

Thats what i said!!!!!!!!

The hell with him go with the flow on this one, most people aren't sucking. I mean I personally dont like things(inanimate objects) that are sucky. Screw it just "push" the are through the carbon.

i dont think it really matters, either way the air is going through the filter before it leaves the ducting.

There's a pre-filter on the outside for a reason. Air is meant to be sucked through the filter, the pre-filter removes larger particles which can shorten the life of the filter.

You can push it through and still get good results. But most carbon scrubbers were designed to have the air pulled through them.
