which fan speed controller do i need to avoid vibration?

my last controller died some how??? but it made noises when i adjusted it and i kno theres a certain type of controller that doesnt give u these rickity noises from the fan which is it?

You are looking for a speed controller with a VARIAC a variac will reduce the wattage supplied to the fan which reduces the fan speed, others which do not utilise variacs work by cutting the power on and off to reach the desired speed which is why you get fan hum.

thanks mate fukin brilliant !! will the fan mentioned in the post above have variac or would it have to be a high spec expensive controller and im geussing it would specify "this fan uses variac technology" thanks again jondomon top stuff plus rep

A useful bit of kit. Often growers buy a large fan to cope with the summer heat and then come winter it proves too powerful, bringing in too much cold air. The clever Fan Speed Controller Rig allows you to adjust the speed of your fan, so your plants don't get icy blasts! It will comfortably control all our RVK Fans except the RVK315 L1. Not suitable for use with Acoustic Fans.

Not exactly true. A variac controls voltage, which is what you need.
