I think it would be fun to see where we all are at RIU

Which of these generations do you fall under?
Do you think the description of your generation describes you?

Baby Boomers: Now approaching retirement age, the "boomers" are those born in the decade following the end of World War II (aged roughly 47-65). They are considered a generation who have "had it all", cosseted by parents who experienced the Great Depression and raised in the prosperous post-war era. Many benefited from free tertiary education and relatively low housing costs. Common put-downs range from 'self-obsessed' to 'stuck in their ways'.

Generation X: Those born roughly between 1963-1980 (now aged early-30s to mid-40s.) Gen-Xers are often labelled the "slacker" generation, uncommitted and unfocused. The "why me?" generation. They are the first generation to have experienced divorce on a large scale and are likely to have changed careers several times. While their parents grew up in the era of the Civil Rights movement, Xers are considered more likely to want to keep their heads down than to change the world.

Generation Y: Those born between 1981 and 1994. Common put-downs include lazy, debt-ridden and programmed for instant gratification. They are portrayed as demanding and unrealistic in their career aspirations. Now we can add "internet-addicted" and "lonely" to the list.

Generation Z: Those born 1995-2009, they are the first generation never to have experienced the pre-internet world. Accordingly are already technology-focused. The iPad generation?

Generation Alpha: Yes, now we're onto the Greek alphabet. This generation begins with those born in 2010. It has been predicted they will be the most formally educated generation in history, beginning school earlier and studying longer. The children of older, wealthier parents with fewer siblings, they are already being labelled materialistic.

I am a Generation X'er. I agree with the last sentence of the description of my gen. But not sure about the "slacker" label. I'm def not a slacker myself.

gen y.

Now, gen alpha.. I would have to disagree with that hypothesis. Add in complete world financial collapse, chronic over population, possible/likely world war 3, possible/likely global terrorist event, possible/likely pandemic, .. I don't think the future looks too bright, so education, meh.. no use when everyone's dead.

Now, maybe the next generation after alpha will experience a sort of "baby boomer" type revival when the world gets going again with a greatly reduced population.

Gen Y I guess:

Lazy - maybe
Debt-ridden - absolutely not
Programmed for instant gratification? - If that's true, then isn't that the Baby Boomer's fault?
Demanding and unrealistic in their career aspirations - Up until last month, I was working 2 jobs and getting zero sleep. Before that I was so broke, that all I aspired for, was just to be employed.
Internet-addicted - nailed it
Lonely - I'm alone, but I'm not lonely

I think your genration descriptions are very US based. We live in a globalized world but thanbkfully not that globalized. I really see strong resemblenses though, especially when thinking of the more developed european countries. Nice thread by the way.

c.
Label for any generation, very general generalizations are bull sheiot...
There are always exceptions to every rule....
Which most of Us Basically are...
When the exception to the rule becomes the norm...then we'll talk...
I see all the traits listed for all generations, in Every generation....
That's the normal... Every generation is equally messed up...in every way

X-Y crossover by the descriptions, but a Y being born in the exceptional year of 1981. I may fit some of the stereotypes of both, though i'm not typical of anybody in my age group really. My short attention span combined with ludicrous aspirations and a refusal to do anything the 'right' or expected way make me a bit of an oddball. Thank fuck.

Baby boomer technically but far from this description, that probably has to do with the fact I got into technology in my mid-20's and have ADD so I recognized a long time ago that i get bored quick and need constant change in my life to function. My last big change-up was getting rid of my ex and trading in for a newer model, fuck-yeah :bigjoint:
