which is better for vegging with. a 45w 4100k. or a 15w 6500k? basically what i'm asking is if higher watts or the higher k's are better?

The K's are the color. 6500K is a bluer light and is better for vegging. The 4100 isn't a great spectrum for plants but 2700K would be good for flowering.

ok i understand better now. i was going with the more watts the better. but i guess it should be the more k's the better? if i were to use 15w-6500k will i need a lot of lights b/c it has low watts?

Sort of. Don't think of K's as a level but as a spectrum. Plants flower between 2500 and 3500 K and veg between 5500 and 7000 K. I may have fudged those numbers a little but their somewhere in that vicinity. Anything over 7000 probably won't do anything for your plants. In fact I think that's ultraviolet (could be wrong).

As far as watts go, the more the better. More watts = more lumens = more bud!

Check out the lighting section in the GrowFAQ at the top of the page. It has tons of info on lights, watts, lumens, etc...

thanks! so idealy i'll need something with lots of watts and high k's but under 7000 for veg. and lots of watts but less k's for flowering. more watts=good, more yield k=the lights specs for growing

Yeah, pretty much. As far as CFLs go, "Cool White" for veg (bluer) and "Warm White" for flower (redder).

Good Luck!
