Which is most optimal? (COB vs SamsungStrip)

Hey y'all,
I've been working on a build list for a microgrow setup and am having trouble figuring out if I should use a COB or multiple Samsung LED strips.

I'm thinking either:

What makes the most sense if the grow space will be 20x20x48in?
Would either option be able to use the same driver?
Do these lights have similar efficacy?
Are the LED strips easier or more difficult to cool?


I'm looking to make the most out of the space :)

Think the L06 in that size is overkill.
Better off with S02 or S03.

S02 run the lowest amps. Be plenty for your size.

Because you're working with 4' of headroom, strips are the only viable solution.
It'll be almost impossible to maintain any uniformity across that space with a single source of light.

Yea that's the ones Bv1 or Bv2.

Bv1 run at 1A typ max 1.6A
Bv2 run at 1.4 typ max 2.2A

Bv2 S03 more efficient. But run higher current.
Bv1 S02 cheaper and saves on electric bill.

Based on 400 watts ..
Can see the efficiency and flux for each.
How many you can run for 400w.

Can get a better spread with more lights with S02 or S03.

Double the amount of strips as you can see.

I run S02 on 1A. Maximum I crank it up to is 1.4 A
I appreciate all the info!

Will this driver work for 2x SL-B8V2N80LAWW (1-1.6A, 22.3V/per strip)?

or will it not pull enough volts at lowered current (1-1.4A) with only two in series?


Also when it says:
'Dimming: Analog'
Does that mean it is dimmable by a potentiometer or something?

First check your sizes.

Your space 20 x 20.

Those lights are 56cm long, your area is 50cm.

Yes that driver is a constant current driver, cable of running 200.2Watts and maximum 1.4A.
Any Samsung strip with a maximum of 1.6A this driver will run pretty efficiently if maxing out the 200.2W.

Again the Samsung Calculator is your friend.

28cm strips you would need 4 of them or 3 minimum.

You can run the S02 on that driver, but would need 12 to max out the power of that driver in series.

I was thinking I could run them slightly diagonally because I should have 28" of diagonal headspace. Is that a dumb idea lol?
I see the shorter ones are only slightly more in cost if it would be more worthwhile.

One thing that comes to mind is how beefy of heat sync do I need for a stip like this? Can it be run at 1.4A without one?

Because I would lack enough lights to reach the 71-143v output range of that driver correct?

And the whole based on 400w thing confuses me sorry! still learning :D

20 x 20 grow area
18 x 18 light's area ideally.
Lights just under your grow area.

Run pretty hot at maximum, without sufficient cooling I wouldn't recommend. Minimum aluminium u channel. Recommended more than that.

Using 10mm flat aluminium bar and 12mm heatsink and a fan on roof. Still warm to touch at maximum. Never run at maximum so far.

Forget the voltage.
It's the power your looking for.
400w slideshows are just to show how many you can run in series. Parallel a another topic.

How bright they are for the wattage output.

Your area you would only need 80w technically max.
