Hello, im upgrading my grow setup and am getting some new stuff. I have already bought a 150w hps and im going to be buying another one...the 2 sizes of tents i have to choose from are 2x2x5.3feet tall....or 2.7x2.7.5.11feet tall. I want to know which tent i should use and was wondering how many plants i would be able to flower under the 300w's of hps(2 150w's) the ventilation is not a problem and i will only be growing autoflowering seeds my first couple grows...thanks for any answers and advice...thanks

also, ill be vegging under cfl's

Consider the size of the lights and hoods when choosing. Also you can get MH conversion bulbs instead of using cfl for veg. You'll be happy you did.

the hoods are about 12inches long x 6inches wide if that helps..and can you tell me how much one of these mh conversion bulbs cost?

I would try to find a tent that is at least 36" in width. If you get the 2'7" that will leave only 3.5" in either side. MH conversion is about $90. How much were you planning to spend on the lights?

Well I was only trying to spend like 200 maybe 250 at most on lighting..its just a small space for personal supply...so far the 150w i bought was 80$ for everything, came with a built in ballast.

Well, Take a look at this

http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-HTGSupply-Ultimate-400w-HPS-&-MH-Grow-Light.asp

both bulbs, switchable ballast and a timer too boot. Not too mention 100w more power than what you were planning. Not bad huh?

I am not a sales rep for HTG, but I bought a lot of my equipment from them including my 36"w x 20"d x 64"h tent which cost about $110.00 wih shipping. These guys are reputable, very helpful, and have great shtuff. They also have an e-bay store and you can sometimes get a better price than direct through their website. That's how I got my tent, paid about $40 less than on their site.

The heat from the ballast from the 150w you have is not going to be much cooler. If you get 2 6' inline fans 1 for intake/1 for exhaust and have an oscilating fan pointed at the light, you should not have a problem.

That's a good deal, but i dont think i could handle that much heat if it didnt have an air cooled hood
I'm running dual HTG 250's in my 2x2x5 ft tent running a 4" scrubber setup. The canopy top is between 79 and 81 so it can be done with an open air reflector.

Would it still be ok if i live in the warm part of U.S and during the summer have to keep my house at about 77F?

Summer would be tough to pull it off but with a good cool air supply I don't see why not. I don't grow in the summer indoors to much of a PITA. It gets hot here so it's just a big hassle. I just do a couple of plants in the winter and it lasts all summer till the next fall and I repeat. It's for personal use so I don't need a whole lot.

Absolutely! You will certainly yield more than with the cfl's you were thinking about. And depending on where you live you may have an HTG store near you. I lived in Disgusta GA when I got my equip. I drove a 5 hour round trip to go to Charlotte NC. Definately worth the trip.

What about summer? do you think i would still be able to grow during summer with the 400w? I keep my house at about 77F during summer but i am going to be getting some inline fans so im not sure...and thanks for all the help so far man haha +rep

I live in the deep south, ran my 250w all summer with 1 4"inline 1 mini fan in the tent and an oscilating fan outside blowing in (only drawback was I was not able to close the door) but my temps never got over 84. I have been unemployed and short cash. But when I get some $ I am gonna upgrade my reflector and get a 6' inline. I am sure I will be ok with that. You should be fine.

I saw that ebay listing looks good and at a very reasonable cost. The only drawbacks are digital ballasts can sometimes have issues and this item has no warranty to back it up. If you go with HTG it may cost a bit more but you get a tried and true ballast, and HTG will certainly stand behind their product. However, the seller on ebay has sold 55 and has a very good feedback. So, the choice is obviously yours. But if it were me I would go with the product I know is guaranteed.
