Ok so previously I had used the widowmaker 75% hair turn red for my harvest. But I just got a 30x handheld microscope deal wna light.

Now I'm curious where on the bud is the best place to judge it's doneness as regarding the amber trics?

If I look at the trics on my girls that are on the small leafs protrouding from the buds there are a fair number/% of amber trics but the bracts and other tric covered areas still appear clear to cloudy. How deep showld I be looking in my buds
please help with as much info as possible I've read alot and seen many ambiguious pics maybe a pic w a circled portion of a good area or feature to judge from pls

my girls were started 12/12 around 7/17 so I know were close just want max yeild

Im having problems with the same thing , i look in one place and i can se amber and milky and i look in an other place i see mostly clear and few milky. im just as confused as you are . i saw a video on you tube that the guy cuts a cola of his plants and checks it on the table with a microscope, i just dont got the balls to cut it prematurely.lol

i read something about that the small growth dosent even finish right so they lolipopit cuz is just a waste of the plants energy. not sure though . i also pulled a popcorn nug and most of the trichs were clear on it, but when i look at the main cola i can see milky and amber.

You have to think mostly and not almost all or all.

You also want to check the trich colors at different levels of your plants. Top, middle and bottom … and if you are growing sequoias you may want to split it into fourths and check another level that way.

A piece of leaf protruding from a bud will be pretty representative of the bud it stuck out of but you can always nip off a piece of a bud and check it. You don’t have to take a whole bud and for sure not a whole cola just to check.

with a sativa should i wait untill all milky or whot %of milky is at its peak...
and also i have a wite widow thas over 9 weeks 12/12 but no sign ov amber trics only just getin used to this microscope mind..
shall i keep it going untill amber, i hear if u keep in the dark few days prehervest this will help ripen it faster. is this myth or method.

so you are saying that if i find a fair amount of buds with small leaves protruding from it(ones u cant see the stem) that are amber and cloudy then its a fair bet your done? im growing multi cola-ed plants that vegged for over 2 months and were trained and tied so the canopy is pretty even, and the buds are really looking good...i just dont want to shortchange myself

so looking at the "inner" trics for amber color is not the way to go?...
if isnip a piece off and am i looking at all sides of the piece or just the part that was exposed to the light...the outside of the piece?

couple pics sorry a little blurry

I may have expressed myself poorly. I tried to say that before hacking off a bud or a piece of one a piece of leaf extruding from a bud will be at pretty much the same stage of development. If you do that on several levels and it appears your plant may be ripe according to what trichome color or colors you most prefer then maybe sip a small piece of bud from different levels just to make sure.

Checking leaves along the way at different times and levels saves you from nipping bud pieces and if someone is using something like the Radio Shack illuminated mini-scope they know it is damn hard to hover long enough to get a really good look at what is going on so nipping something to set down and look at makes it a lot easier.

If what you are calling the outer trichs are trichs on leaves and trichs on buds are inner trichs then in short .. use the outer trichs to get and keep a general idea of what is going on and when they look good then check the inner trichs and make your final decision to harvest on that.

If you meant outer trichs as in the outer edges of buds where light was striking them and inner are some inner buried by growth trichs then go by what is outside exposed to light.

Like I have said …. You are looking for most … that is the key word .. most .. so you look where you can see the most and that will be outer sources, outer edges of buds and leaves.
