Which watt light to go with

My cabinet is 34"L 20"W 60"H

Should I go with a 250W HPS or 400W HPS

I will make sure there is good ventilation. Will 400W be overkill?

I would go with the 400. Definitely not overkill. I use a 600 and my box isn't much bigger than yours.

Go with the 400W if heat is not an issue. I would suggest an air cooled reflector with either a 4 or 6" inline fan.

Rule of thumb for OPTIMAL is said to be 50 watts per sq ft. I did some math on your sq ft, and I am no math wiz, so you should double check it.

at 250 watts you should be conforming to the 50 watts per sq ft and then a tiny bit more.
