I would invest in a 8bulb HO T5 fixture that comes with 6500k bulbs.

Open in a new window, you can zoom in on the picture. You can see how tight the internode length is on those. Now that also has to do with strain (White Widow 60s/40i both from south America)

Yes, bulbs included. Now, If I was you. If you have it in you to take up cloning her, it would be in your best interest to obtain results like in the picture above. Considering you are willing to do things proper, you already have a 1000w hps :P

Imo just get a MH bulb and toss it in for veg, dim it if possible.

The best advice I can give you, is to invest. It seems like you want to "do the damn thing" so I suggest going as proper as possible. You get what you pay for right? Some people will suggest cutting corners here or there, but it shows in your product..

That's scary. I would defiantly double check all this as it could be a severe fire hazard :( Well, I didn't mean to take you off topic. But I think in the end, instead of wasting money in the long run on little results.
1. Buy that 8 bulb T5 fixture (comes with the right bulbs too)
2. Buy some rapid rooters and a large humidity dome with some Clone-X rooting gel. (check out some videos on cloning, it's rather easy don't be scurd. U can use 1 low wattage CFL bulb for the entire dome on 24 hour lighting until you see roots)
3. Veg them while topping and bending for 2-3 Weeks under the T5 fixture using 4 or 8 bulbs as you need (it has a switch)
4. Then switch them to 12/12 under that beast 1000w and voila, you will have good results.

Also, If you ever notice a GREEN mold, water less and sprinkle some cinnamon on your top soil. Works wonders ;) Have a good one and best of luck to you!

thanks so much for all the tips and help, really awesome, I learned a lot. how do you think these plants will do if i just continue with the current setup? i know theres lots of factors but just a best guess

They make a model with dimming.
Look for a knob on the ballast that lets you turn down the power.

You can also just buy a compatible 600w Metal halide bulb for vegging. The wattage must match the ballast.

The shorter one looks Decent, However I would clone them and start over with some T5's if you have the patience. Like you said yourself, A lot of factors will come into play as to how they turn out. I can promise you though, they will be lanky and you will have to get tomato cages as someone stated earlier or you will using a lot of stakes to hold them up. The buds will weigh down the plant, stressing her. Short and fat is always the way to go indoors.
You will turn your 2 girls into 10 at least and you will have the knowledge of keeping a plant short to start with.
