I put a load of fresh grass clippings in a brown yard waste bag for 3-4 days. it got real hot after 1 day, it was steaming on a hot summer day.

But i went away for 3 days to my cottage, and when i came back it was no longer hot, and it was full of white mold all over and in it. Had a wierd smell to.

So basically i wana know if this is ok to put in my compost bin? i am pretty sure its fine, mold is breakin it down right?

but i jus wanted to be sure. can any one shed some light?
Thanks!

Put it in dude. The mold would still show up in a compost bin. Thats how it gets broken down. Just remember to keep turning the bin to keep it aerated so the bad microbes have a harder time getting a foot hold.

Why in hell do you and so many others insist on posting multiple threads with the same simple question? Please note - only beginners in growing or posting do this.

The size of my bin is like a wooden box, 4 ft by 3.5ft and about 2 feet deep.

If you know the size of a large brown paper yard waste bag, (pretty big) I put a large bags worth of moldy grass clippings on there. There is ALOT of mold in there. and it is powdery white mildew looking stuff ill see if i can snap a pic.

would it be a good idea to pick as much of the moldy material out as i can and throw in a bunch of dead dry leaves ?? something dry to counter act the wet molding?

Why is this a problem?

molds are an important player in the compost pile. mix the grass in well. grass tends to mat, and lock out air, becoming anaerobic.

So just mix the moldy clippings in real good, keep the pile well ventilated an full of oxygen and carry on as i normally would??

Or pick as much of the mold out?

I think ill be fine either way. jus wont use any compost for a while. and keep adding leaves, and browns and greens.

BTW thanks for the feed back!

just mix it in well and keep aerated. molds are great. they produce bacteriostasins which kill bad bacteria. that white mold may be penicillin:)
